How important is it to reflash every update to Hades?

I'm on Hades 05, is it necessary to keep upto date all the time? at this rate I'll be spending more time updating than watching TV on the box.

1- No, you're not obliged to update. Some do it all the time, some do it once a month and some never do it.
2- Updating only costs around 2 minutes.

Does menu, setup, software update just update the current image (Apollo 126 in my case) to the latest Apollo version ?
Q2 can you 'couch flash' to the new Hades image ? I've never done a flash - my box is still running the image/version it came with.

Unfortunately in your case you are on an old build and ViX has moved servers so you would need to flash Hades via usb. If you were on, for instance Apollo 166 you would have been able to couch flashed yeah.

If I look in Set up/Software update it tells me there are (151 updated packages available) and 5 options the first of which is View the changes and when I do view them (OE Changes) the latest shows openvix:build 166 So, if I now choose option 2 Upgrade and reboot system will it install 166 and then allow a couch flash for Hades ? (hope that made sense)

You still can: download the image from http://www.openvix.co.uk/ and FTP it to media/xxx/imagebackup (where 'xxx' is HDd or USB or whatever device name you use).

Just to clarify what you are saying - I download Hades 008 from your link for my box (VUsolo2) I then FTP the zip file to media/hdd/imagebackup. In there at present is zip file (openvix vusolo2 software update Apollo 126 date number zip) Does the existing zip file have to be deleted and be replaced with Hades ?

I think you can press blue button - select Vix - select image manager - select downloads - select Hades (latest build) - the backup one step and select the image an dclick install.

It will then install the image without you downlaoding to USB. Once installed, you cant backip a previous version of Apollo - you have to do it all from scratch.

    FP.

Yes, you can add any image to that folder, then use Blue button -> ViX -> Image Manager, highlight the image you want to install -> Blue button to flash it.

Nope, you can have multiple files in there.
Now use the ViX-imagemanager to 'restore' the newly downloaded file (no unzipping is needed).

Thank you. In image manager I now see the Apollo image along with the Hades image. Next step is to highlight Hades and press the blue button (restore). I am a bit nervous with this step as my box, after 4 months of a steep learning curve, is working perfectly - what will actually happen, will my settings remain and bouquets etc ? If it all goes wrong, can I revert back to Apollo ?

Flashing a new image wipes everything.

Make a backup image so you can revert if needed.
