TM Twin OE struggling... time for new box?

    Hi there,

I've had a Technomate TM-Twin OE running ViX for the best part of a year now and it's always performed reasonably well, if not smoothly all the time (I've come to terms with general bugginess).

However, I'm beginning to think the box has had - or is close to having - its day as it slows down after a few hours of usage, to the point that it crashes and restarts, while the PVR facilities, especially pausing, takes seconds to kick in.

In addition, TSmedia can be very sluggish at times and even my channels cut out completely on occasions, to the extent that I have to restart the box. Again this isn't ideal as it takes a good minute-90 seconds to boot.

I also store my AutoBouquetsMaker and OpenTV data for the EPG on my HDD and regularly update the box, so I don't see why else it would be slow other than the specs holding the box back.

With that in mind, and on the assumption that there's nothing I can do about the above, I'm thinking of getting a new box. As a loyal Technomate user, I'm inclined towards the Nano-2T (dual-core CPU etc), but have heard good reviews about the VU series.

What would you recommend I do? Of course I'd like to extend the life of this box, but I have my reservations.

    Looking forward to your responses

the issue could be a number of things. do you install of flash? what is your setup? are you on recent 008 hades? etc etc.

if your going for a new box id go for the vu solo2 or if you have a small budget I would look at the xtend 800. buy from the sponser WOS

Try enabling a swap file and see how that goes. Go for a 256mb swap file to your hdd. To enable this press blue button, ViX, Swap manager, blue button to create, after a minute or two when its setup then press the yellow button to Autostart n finally the green button to Activate then exit all the way out.

Thanks Andy_Hazza, just tried what you said and will see how it goes for the next day or so.

As for your kind message too, John Doe, I flash by USB and update through the wizard, but after googling Hades 008, it appears that I'm still stuck on Apollo. Will this box be able to run Hades smoothly or is it better to stay on an older version, considering it's a couple of years old now?

I've bought every box since my legendary 5402 from WoS, so no issue there I'd say my budget's in the £150-£170 range, but I could probably push to £200 if it was really worthwhile. I just need a twin tuner, capable of smooth performance on a stable firmware.

Hades works fine with my solo2 and should do on the technomate. if you decide to go with hades then flash from new and no backups from older images. I suppose if Andy's method doesn't work, then try flashing with hades and see how you get on.
