I just ordered the RT N66u. I am planning on just using the stock firmware. Is merlin meant to be better. What difference does it make by putting merlin on there.??
    Thanks

you don't need to tell anyone... someone WILL port scan you at some point...
I've had an SSH server available to the internet for a few years now, very secured, but still doesn't stop people finding it and having a pop.

There are over 37,500 blocked ip address on my box now from failed brute force attempts, and whilst I appreciate anyone can fake an IP, it's like home security, it's about putting enough blockers in place that the average 'hacker' will go for an easier target. If someone is persistent about breaking in, then it's likely they'd get in at some point regardless!

Please don't follow this advice. Your box can easily be found with a simple google search if you do.

    morning all

i got an n66u yesterday and have flashed it with latest merlin i could find, mainly becuase it has a different openvpn than the one thats in standard firmware. and i can also plug my sky card into it aswell, freeing up my nas machine to have a play around with other software.

i have setup ftp and telnet to the router etc,
i can connect with ftp to the router but i can only see the usb stick i have installed. i cannot get into the root file system with ftp to transfer my openvpn server config files. is this possible?

also does anyone have an up to date build of oscam for these routers? which oscams am i supposed to be using? arm-asuswrt ones? brdcm ones? i could cross compile my own if i know what toolchain its supposed to be.
