A new television micro-channel dedicated to horticulture and grow-your-own food will commence broadcasting on digital satellite in March next year.

Presented by Claire Stay and Geoff Wakeling, the Horticultural Channel will broadcast on Sunday mornings from 9am on the Information TV channel, which is available on Sky channel 166 and Freesat 402.

London-based production firm Interfusion Films has already started making programmes for the channel. All shows will be repeated on Information TV the following Friday at 8.30pm.

Interfusion Films managing director Sean James Cameron said that the channel was created in response to demand from allotment gardeners and grow-your-own food enthusiasts.

"Until now there has been a vast gap in the UK gardening television schedules for such a programme which mainstream broadcasters have ignored," Cameron said.

"Our programme aims to address this and will deliver a series of informative horticultural programmes which will be accessible to those either with many years experience of gardening or the new notice."

He added: "Demand for allotments within the UK is currently very high but you don't need to have an allotment to grow successful crops such as salad.

"Even if your garden is small or live in an apartment with only a balcony, the Horticultural Channel will give viewers practical advice for growing your own food. The series will be presented by knowledgeable amateur gardeners."
