    Talk to me about Telnet

I am a total novice at Linux stuff.

I am happy using an ftp program like FileZilla - I use FileZilla to laoa pages on my website'n'stuff.

But this Telnet business is new to me.
    What's it for?
    What's it do?
    How's the syntax work?
Where can i get a quick overview?

    Talk to me!!

Re: Talk to me about Telnet

I'll do my best to explain Telnet for use with Linux satellite receivers.

First you can Telnet to a receiver either through windows command prompt, putty or DCC.

Through windows CMD prompt you enter telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx are the ip of the receiver)

Telnet can be used to install plugins/addons etc..
    Stop start cams/scripts etc..
Can be used to obtain debugging info.
    View directories.

Its got other uses but the above are the main for a satellite receiver, unless anyone can think of more. Once you receive your VU+ Duo you'll start to learn a bit more about telnet.
