WSJ: Apple cutting iPhone orders due to weak demand

According to the WSJ, Apple has begun cutting component orders for the iPhone 5 due to weak demand.
For example, Apple has cut its orders for iPhone 5 displays by 50 percent for the January-to-March quarter, say the sources.

Additionally, the company is slashing orders for other components, as well, letting their suppliers know over the last month.

If accurate, the news is a massive blow for Apple, who was banking on strong iPhone 5 sales to better compete with Samsung in the race for global smartphone dominance.

During the fourth quarter of 2011, Apple had a 23 percent market share of global smartphone shipments. That number fell to 14.6 percent by the Q3 2012. Samsung, on the other hand, rose to 31.3 percent in the quarter thanks to the popularity of their Android workhorses, the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II.

Im due for an upgrade in less than 3 weeks time..

I currently have an iphone4.. I was offered a 4S and decide not to take it.. and stay with iphone4

I am a fan of the iphone.. and was going to upgrade to the iphone 5 but have decided not to..

I have been with 02 for donkeys years.. and i have always had the unlimted calls.. unlimited texts and unlimited data pack..

They will give me the same tarriff on a sim only deal for 19.00+Vat quid per month.. Instead of the 65+Vat im paying at the moment.. ( But that included the iphone4 a year ago..)

So the 45 quid per month is the only reason why im not going for the iphone5.. In other words.. My iphone4 is now 1 year old.. But it does everything i need it to do..

You should look on a site called Giffgaff , google it. They use o2 service but usually can't be beat on price. And no contract!

    Worth a butchers.

If read Giff gaff fully, that's exactly what you can do. You pick you're bundle, e.g. mins, texts, data allowances, then you set it to auto update every month. So it is contract. just 30 days rolling contract. If you find better deal you can leave with PAC code no questions asked.

    It is worth a read.

Edit: should have wrote no 12/24 month contract in earlier post, sorry

I'm not surprised, i've had 7 iphone 5's since September.

I've given up trying to get a brand new phone, that actually looks brand new.

Just glad I got it free on 12 month contract. If I had payed for it, i'd be seriously pissed off lol

May be if you loose a tongue through eating to many horse burgers or something. we might be able to convert you!
