Sky D launches Disney Channel HD

Disney Channel HD will be added to Sky Deutschland’s line-up of HD channels on December 24.

“A Christmas present for our viewers,” according to Sky Deutschland CEO Brian Sullivan in local newspaper reports.

The addition of yet another HD channel follows the launch of Sky Sport News HD earlier this month.

The move marks the emphasis on HD as the new standard for the German pay-TV platform. Customers can now view up to 33 HD channels with a Sky D receiver.

The offer includes 16 HD channels from Sky (including Sky 3D HD), 12 channels from the HD+ platform and five free to air HD channels.

Sky HD channels include Sky Cinema HD, Sky Action HD, Sky Cinema Hits HD, Sky Sport HD 1, Sky Sport HD 2, Sky Sport HD Extra, Sky Sport News HD, Fox HD, History HD, Discovery HD, Eurosport HD, ESPN HD, National Geographic HD, NatGeo Wild HD and now Disney Channel HD.

The number of HD channels will be expanded in 2012. Sky D currently has 2.85 million subscribers.
