The Spanish Canal+ operation will withdraw from its premium digital terrestrial business, handing over its capacity to Mediaset. The broadcasters said the reason is simply not enough subscribers.

The move comes after just more than a year of the launch of DTT chnanel Canal+ 2, which offers premium sports in competition with the football channel Gol TV. 5.

The Spanish Prisa Group launched Canal+2 in August 2010 but did not attract enough subscribers. According to local reports, the broadcaster attracted only 1,200 subscribers. The monthly subscription fee was set at EUR 1

The channel will stop broadcasting at the end of December and current subscribers will not have to pay their subscription for this month.

Prisa said it is now concentrating on its premium offer son DTH satellite and cable.

In January, Mediaset is taking over the capacity with the launch of the male skewed channel Energy.

Meanwhile, Gol TV has now reached 350,000 subscribers for its premium DTT offer, which also includes the Sony action channel AXN.
