As the BBC gears up for its 3D broadcast of Strictly Come Dancing, the broadcaster is now running a 3D promo reel on its BBC HD channel.

The 24 minute showcase consists of the BBC 3D test card followed by a music show (studio test done by Studios and Post Production), a pre-test from Planet Dinosaur and highlights of the 125th Wimbledon Tennis Championships, broadcast in 3D for the first time this summer, including the presentation of the winning trophy.

The current version will run until around 6 th January. There will be an update to the 2D section next week.

Viewers who do not own a 3D TV can still see the effect using the cross-eye technique (although be sure to do this several metres from your screen to avoid headaches!) Also, the cross-eyed technique will push everything behind the screen plane, but you will still see the 3D effect.

The BBC HD channel (due to be replaced next year by BBC 2 HD) can be found on Sky channel 169, Freeview channel 54 and Virgin Media channel 187.

After trialling 3D filming of the BBC’s hit show Strictly Come Dancing earlier this year, the final of the current series will be broadcast in 3D on 19.00 December 17th.

For those who do not own a 3D TV, a network of cinemas will be screening Strictly Come Dancing 3D. People who live in Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, London Covent Garden, Dunfermline, Manchester Printworks, Torbay, London Piccadilly, Rhyl, Stroud, Altrincham, Leamington, Carmarthen, Burnley and Barrow In Furness can visit a cinema in their home town to enjoy the experience.
