Badoo, the social network often dubbed the 'Facebook for sex', has attracted more than 130m users worldwide, including 1m in the UK.

The makers of Badoo describe the site as "the world's largest social network for meeting new people", but it is often used as a place to search for sex.

A poll of 85,000 Badoo members in Britain revealed that 30% of users had "met someone for sex" through the network, reports the Daily Mail.

With more than 132m members worldwide, Badoo is now thought to be the world's fourth-largest social network, adding 125,000 new members every day and 51m users accessing the site every month.

It is also now among the top 65 most visited websites in the world, and is available in 30 different languages and more than 180 countries.

Badoo advertises itself as a place to "boost your social life. Chat, flirt, meet up and have fun!"

But there have been Facebook-style privacy concerns about the service, including that each user's email address is openly shared on the web.

Users create their own profile, stating what sort of people they want to meet, and then other members can chat with them and decide whether to meet up.

The site offers a basic free service, but users can pay to access more premium features, such as being introduced to a larger number of people, or prominence on the site for a limited time.

Badoo, based in London, features no adverts but is understood to generate around $100m (£64m) a year in revenues for its owner, the Russian entrepreneur Andrey Andreev.
