    Linux Newbie

    Hi all.

I'm looking to upgrade from my openbox S9 to a linux based receiver.

Will the upgrade help in the following areas as I find them lacking in the closed S9 system:

Better EPG -can you have an epg update for both 13e and 28e?
Channel lists -I currently have a favourites list with 8 categories. I found this a chore to set up and maintaining it is even harder, especially when the channel frequencies change. Can the enigma system auto update these?
Build quality -the S9 runs very cool but would sometimes freeze, I wasn't expecting much for a cheap box but it performs well when it works.
I currently run a diseqc switch to the S9 with two LNBs 13e and 28e. I take it the Linux system would cope fine with diseqc switching?
Support -Looks like the enigma system is very well supported so was looking at a vix image. The range of plugins also seems great.

My budget is around £200 so have been looking at the DM800SE, Xtrend ET5000 and VU+ Solo. So far it looks like the Solo is ticking all the right boxes. Although the ET5000 appears to be faster, the VU+ seems to have better build quality and support.

    Thanks in advance!

Can the enigma system auto update these? You can use pre made bouquet packs or scan the satellite your self but nothing other than a official receiver from the service providers can auto update channels.

Many thanks for your help pheonix!

So if I'm understanding this correctly, if any channels change frequency there's generally an update to the bouquet pack which I can download (as found in the enigma 2 settings sub-forum). I'd need two bouquets (13e and 28e) and these channels are normally listed in the same order as from the service provider? Is there a way of grouping these channels by genre or like the service provider has e.g movies, documentaries etc

EDIT: Think I've spotted a favourites option on the channel menu so I'm guessing that's a yes Looks like silverfox has some great settings for members. Thanks!

no you can only have one bouquet pack on your receiver at one time, however you can have multiple satellite locations within one bouquet pack. if that makes sense. as for grouping them together you can use third party software such as dreambox edit to set all of that up to your liking, or use one of the many preset packs which are grouped together by their authors.

That makes perfect sense thanks pheonix. Think I'll be trying a pre-set pack to start off with. Either way, it beats 4 hours of writing down channel numbers and reordering them via remote control! Will make some enquiries about the vu+ solo tomorrow.

    Thanks again!

if your going to buy the receiver new i would highly recommend you give the site sponsor a shout first he is very reputable and has fantastic after sales support. also if you pm him on the forum he will give you a fiver off the usual price for being a member here.

DreamboxEdit is fantastic for drag & drop editing of your bouquets (on computer) & makes it simple to upload to your box, saves hours on the remote...
