    France completes digital switchover

France concluded the switch-off of all analogue terrestrial transmitters in the night from Monday November 28 to Tuesday, November 29.

Digital switchover did not only happen in mainland France, but also in the overseas territories and departments.

The last region in France to switch off analogue was Languedoc-Roussillon, and in overseas France French Guyana, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Mayotte.

The digital switchover process started in October 2009 and involved 24 regions in mainland France and 11 overseas territories.

At the moment, the digital terrestrial service – called TNT in France – offers 19 free-to-air channels, 10 premium channels, HD channels, and 45 local broadcasters.

The terrestrial HD offer now consists of TF1 HD, France 2 HD, Arte HD and M6 HD. A further six HD channels are planned to go on air before the end of 2012.

People living in areas not covered by the terrestrial transmitter network can receive the full bouquet of channels from two DTH platforms, TNTSat on Astra and Fransat on Eutelsat. The free-to-air channels are free-to-view on satellite requiring a subscription-free smart card.
All PM,s asking about c/s on cable will be ignored and reported to forum staff!
