Motorola Droid Razr official, 7.1mm thin

Motorola's new Droid Razr phone is even thinner than we dared hope -- just 7.1mm. That's more than 2mm slimmer than the iPhone 4S, and according to Motorola, it's the world's thinnest smart phone. Now that's slim.

We saw leaks, leaks and more leaks, so we can't exactly say the Droid Razr is a surprise. The specs are exactly as we reported previously, so it's good to see not all leaks turn out to be disappointing.

There's an 8-megapixel camera on the back that's also capable of recording 1080p video. Inside it has a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, so it's theoretically faster than the iPhone 4S, as previous reports hinted.

It's tough too. There's a stainless steel core and a Kevlar back, with a splash guard screen. The screen, as expected, is a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced qHD resolution (540x960 pixels), which again we brought you news of before.

It'll also have 12.5 hours of talk time, with 8.9 hours of video playback. And it has WebTop, which means it'll slide into the docks for the original Motorola Atrix. We're expecting a new Atrix with new docks too, so stay tuned to see if Motorola announces them as well.

MotoCast also comes as standard: a cloud-based storage service that lets you access your files on the move, sort of like DropBox.

The Droid Razr will also work with Motorola's Actv, a device you strap to your wrist to monitor your fitness stats. So you can make a call from your watch, Dick Tracy-style.

The Droid Razr was announced at Motorola's Big Innovation event, as reported by This Is My Next.

Pre-orders start on 27 October in the US for a November launch, for $299 (£190). There's no word on UK price or availability yet, but you can be sure we'll bring you more as we get it.

So what do you reckon? A triumphant return for the Razr? Let us know down in the comments
