Is there any point allowing a device to be set up for recordings if it will fail to timeshift?

It will record OK to fat32 devices.
It will not timeshift on fat32 devices
Therefore disabling timeshift and those options if a storage device with an invalid file system is present would be a better implementation. Screenshots of 5.4 014 attached.

I really have no clue what you are talking about.
When somebody sets up the HDD, the system assumes it can be used for both recording and timeshift.
Yes, I guess you could in the code disable timeshift if it is fat32, but then you get into the opposite argument to yours.
Providing people know the accepted options, then its just as easy to format a hdd to accept both recording and timeshift - and if you get the system to format the HDD then it will be ext4 which should be acceptable in any image

If you have a fat32 device, it used to tell you you cannot use it for timeshift. IMO, there is no need or benefit to disable configuring those devices for recording.
As you say, these are the options in ViX now. People who need/want to use fat32/ex fat devices will need to use another image because we, the Vix team have disabled configuring those for recording because of timeshift incompatibility. Not everybody needs or uses a timeshift.
As an example, somebody's HDD fails and they want to use an external HDD while they await replacement. And people use their storage devices on multiple devices.
If you see this as a problem why don't you enable it?
And by the way the reason it is like this is so users don't start to file the drive and only later find they need to format from scratch to be able to timeshift to the same device.
Presumably, most people who use timeshift use the automatic option or do so regularly. So they would be aware of issue straight away and your concern would have minimal impact. In any case, you can actually record to fat32 device without configuring. You start getting the issues when you go into the menu.
