Any way to do a more low-level factory restore than flashing the firmware?

    Hi,

I'm trying to help a friend with a VU+ Duo - it's stuck on the OpenVix loading screen with a spinning Vix logo which it never gets past, even after a fresh flash. For comparison I also tried flashing OpenATV instead of Vix (same issue) and I've tried replacing the hard drive - same situation.

iirc I can still ssh to the machine in its "hung" state but can never get any response from the remote control, so have no access to Menu and other options. Currently it's in my workshop with a LAN connection but no connections to either of the satellite tuners - that couldn't be relevant, could it?

I wondered if there was a "deeper reset" option open to me from this state, where the flash would be totally, absolutely "all partitions wiped" reset over & above what installing the firmware does to the internal filesystem....assuming it does anything at all.

    Thanks!

Is that a fresh flash and restore settings??

Also its worth a telnet into the box and enter enigma2 and have a look at the resultant log for issues (like skins not loading)
A system reset just resets the image into a setup state, where you can re-enter everything.
A usb flash will clear the partition, but if you restore settings you can put the error back on.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The box gets into this state on the first boot after an entirely fresh flash (Box off > insert USB > Power-on Box > Box detects firmware on the USB & installs it > after install it tells me to remove the USB & reboot, which I do)

So I don't get to the point of being offered a chance of restoring settings yet. Good idea to check the
    enigma2 log, I'll take a look.
