Although I've found I do not need the power timer, so worth trying without.

Good, there is a workaround... ( sorry,I didn't read all the thread as before the upgrade I didn't have the problem)

To be consistent with other init files I did something a little different.

created with vi the file /etc/init.d/softcam.sh
made it executable with chmod +x
made a soft link in /var/etc/rcS.d to S56softcam.sh
disable startup, reboot and it works.

If a restart is needed I'd rather have a cron job that test if it is running and restart it instead of a full reboot that could disrupt a recording.

    Thanks,
    G

    I did the same,

created with vi the file /etc/init.d/softcam.sh
made it executable with chmod +x
made a soft link in /var/etc/rcS.d to S56softcam.sh
disable startup, reboot. But although Oscam started, it did not work as it was looking for DVBapi, and could also not resolve DNS names (yet), so I changed the filename to S68softcam.sh and this starts it later in the stack and now works fine after a reboot

Has 5.4.016 solved this problem? Just tried using script and softcam manager and both seem to be working the same. Can anyone else confirm?

I spoke too soon regarding it seemed to be working ok. It wasn't. But disappointing that it has also not been fixed in 6.0.001!

So the Oscams built are now the same across all the images.
You have 3 start choices in 6.0:
    1. Use the SoftcamManager
    2. disable SoftcamManager and run the script like OpenPli/OpenATV ...menu/setup/softcamscript .... make sure you have config directory in /etc/tuxbox/config with the correct configs for that Oscam e.g. oscam-latest or oscam-emu
    3. run your own script to start Oscam from init.d

Using softcam manager consatnt freezing, high ecm, using script from earlier posts all works fine. But would be nice to to able to use softcam manager as easier to restart from there as opposed to having to restart from webif uif using the script.

You can't have your cake and eat it. The high ECM times on MIPS boxes seem related to starting the cam from within the enigma process, so to avoid that you can't use SoftcamManager... or you could always switch to a modern ARM or HiSi box.

You can use the new Softcam Script feature which provides the script and has a restart button you can enable.
