    Brexit buying and extra charges

A friend bought a box for Ireland from WOS great service as usual but is now getting more expensive in the receiving end

WOS total was 129.95 sterling (E147.76) plus 13.92 sterling for FedEx (E15.82).
    Total 143.86 sterling (E163.58)

Now received a bill from FedEx
    Import duty 12.57
    Import tax 32.66

    Processing fee 18.15

    Total Euro 63.38

What happens if one has a faulty item sent back and gets repaired and or replaced any more taxwhen its received?

Please ask your friend to open a support ticket in our support ticket system HERE so that we can look into this.

If something is faulty it gets shipping with a faulty status and would not get any duties.

The info you've posted looks wrong to me, but we need the customer to open a ticket so we can look at that particular order.

@cactikid - If the item was exported free of VAT at sale time, then VAT (or import tax as you've called it) at 21% is charged on import of anything over about €22. Note that VAT is chargeable on the total of the goods and the post/carriage. In addition, duty may be chargeable on certain items, but you would have to check the Revenue website for specifics. As well as that, the courier firm (or An Post if it came that way) will charge a service fee for clearing customs if VAT/duty is to be paid.

I'd say Fedex is loving it - 18 euros processing fee is more than they make delivering the package.

This is why we need this customer to open a support ticket with their order details, Fedex advised us there should be no clearance charge as we already are paying a Brexit charge to them.

Depending the goods there should not be any duty, only the VAT. 99% of our goods are 0% tariff.

I bought something last year, the item was £35 including postage from taiwan.

It was shipped via fedex all values declared on the shipping label.

Fedex though do there own duties for customs and import charges, so with my £35 item as this was under the value (£36 iirc) for any fee's to be due, they decided to add the shipping cost to the over all value, thus putting it into the category where they could add the additional charges, which they then calculated incorrectly and then added there own "fee" ontop of this and sent me a bill for £24.xx for the £35 item.

I sent them an email telling them that they are trying to charge me incorrectly and therefore I won't be paying it unless they can prove the fee's are actually due, they replied saying sorry we have cleared it from the system.

Faulty / Warranty returns should ship as before BUT paperwork must stipulate its faulty / warranty.

    Hi EvO,
they did not decide to add transport costs to the value. It is normal for import at least in Germany.

Yes , it's standard practice for customs/revenue authorities to add the transportation cost to the value of the goods when calculating VAT. Any duty is calculated on the value of the goods only.
