Wifi boosters are normally of the "repeater" type and are not particularly efficient since they often receive at a part of the house that has a low speed signal from the router (ie 11M or less) it then rebroadcasts this signal (often on a new SSID) at the original low speed. This is not ideal as the wifi speed drops off considerably from the maximum download figure with any distance. A better solution is to use homeplugs to transfer the wired LAN signal from the router to a blackspot wifi area via the home 240v wiring. Then a wifi homeplug can be used at the remote location. This can often give faster speeds than the "repeater" system but in itself is not perfect as the speed is attenuated by the home wiring and can cause interference. Also some home wiring systems are filtered and cannot be used. The very best system is to always to use CAT5/6 cable and to directly cable between devices. However this can be unsightly and not always aesthetically pleasing!
