HD51 OpenATV to OpenViX flashing problems

I got a used HD51 which currently has OpenATV installed and is working fine. But want to move it to OpenViX. I've tried several different USB sticks, formatted to FAT32 on both a Mac and a PC, but no joy. When I power up and hold in the button I very briefly see 'flash...' appear then it reports 'no partitions' and goes no further. There is a formatted HD fitted and I've tried with it connected and disconnected. Should I perhaps try reflashing with the recovery version, or is there something I am missing or doing wrong?
    TIA - GeoffT.

Usb flashing is a pig. Download the current ViX image and transfer to the HD51 HDD. In ATV, I think long press blue button and select Flash online - find the image, select a slot to flash and flash it - simples.

Use something like 'Minitool partition wizard' to format the USB stick FAT32. Use a genuine kingston USB 2.0 stick, MAX8GB normally resolves flashing issues.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I am using 8Gb USB sticks but not sure they're genuine Kingston. I will try everything you suggest. Half the point in getting the Mutant box was to learn, so one tick already in that box. I hope ultimately to finish up with an equivalent Freesat box, but more tweakable and faster than my current Humax. Thanks again both.

Provided you have a device mounted as HDD, you can flash the receiver by command line using putty. Link to putty guide which also includes the command in my signature.

I have the same problem, when flashing the HD51 displays No Partition. What is causing this error which now seems to be a common problem with the HD51. Is there a solution so that normal flashing with a USB stick can be achieved?

I think you need to flash the recovery version by USB:

    Code:
    https://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/mutant-images/hd51/
    Code:
    http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/current/index.php?open=mutant51

There are two versions of each image. Reading between the lines:
When flashing an image by USB flash drive, use the file ending in "_recovery_emmc"

It isn't just a recovery file. It is image and recovery file as far as I can guess. You flash it by USB and box should start again.
