So what is different about those transponders in more detail than "they use multistream"?
I assume that from the satellite TV point of view they provide nothing extra?
Is it just that they also provide some other services that are not satellite TV or Radio?

More efficient use of bandwidth. Transponder hire costs money. If you look at the Italian channels on 5W they use it for regional variants, they have many variants of the same channel all on the same frequency. The advantages of multistream are for the broadcasters & distributors of satellite tv - not for the viewers as such. In actual fact the mediaset channels on 5W are not for public viewing at all - they are a distribution relay for DTT.

Surely that happens on ordinary DVB-S transponders like on Astra 2E/2F/2G.
For instance Astra 2E 10891H carries 8 regional ITV1s and a few other channels.

    Thanks Ronand.

I actually had no idea, but that's about what I expected.

Thanks for the info from everyone.
