Timeshift Hardlink

This came up on screen this morning:

"Creating Hard link to Timeshift file failed!
The File system on your Timeshift - Device does not support hardlinks.
Make sure it is formatted in EXT2, EXT3 or EXT4.!
[Errno 17] File exists."

So what does all that mean??

2Tb internal HDD was initialised by box.

This system is becoming a pain in the rear.

Just to cap it all the remote control packed up yesterday evening for no apparent reason. Batteries OK. Works now after factory reset.

You haven't setup your internal hd correctly, it shouldn't be autofs for a start, which probably explains the hardlink error.

The telnet/putty command df -T will tell you what disc format is being used.

I installed the Internal HDD exactly in accordance with the GigaBlue instructions and initialised from the menu. So would assume GB/OV would have formatted and set up correctly a month + ago.
Has been working fine with Directories all in the expected places.
Mount manager shows "Ext 4 R/W" .

Autofs refers to another post when the HDD became unmounted for some unexplained reason and I was hunting around for clues.
I now understand that autofs is something to do with network or NAS setup/operation and I'm not doing anything with networks or NAS.

Since rebooted and message not come back.

These weird occurences - unmounting, timeshift and remote not working - have only happened in last 2 days since crossing the Channel and with very high ambient temperatures.

ive had issues with another STB going to black screen, even on FTA channels at random times - i blame the heat, maybe clear the vents / dont put anything on top of unit

The timeshift problem may be related to a missing(unmounted) hard disk. No harddisk - nowhere to store timeshift.

Possible a cold boot by first putting the box into deep standby, removing mains power, waiting 2 minutes for internal voltages to decay and then re-installing the mains may help completely clear any crashed software that may be still running during a deep standby or software reboot.

Could your problem be related by switching on the external power to the LNB before switching on your box and having different 0V potentials at the time the box is switched on? Perhaps you may only get problems if one is switched on before the other in the "wrong" sequence?

Both box and LNB get power at the same time - wired together.
Worked fine in UK. Only change is ambient temperature.
On a boat, relying on solar power so nothing stays on or in standby for longer than needed. So all is switched off for most of the day.
As an aside the Bosch washing machine uses 11w when left switched "off" but power on at the wall. That is over a kwh wasted every 4 days. Multiply by 20m households and that is 5280Mwh per day wasted!!

Pops up on all my E2 boxes every now and again, maybe 1 in a 1,000 times. Nothing to worry about. The HDD hasn't spun up fast enough or another process is using it up at that start up time.

No. Mains voltage is provided by Victron Multiplus sine wave inverter. Output quality and stability is better than UK mains voltage. And now unit is supplied with DC 12v direct.
