UI freeze with spinning Vix logo and timer recording continuing indefinitely

My mbultra went to spinning Vix logo permanently yesterday and the UI was completely unresponsive so I had to do a hard reboot to get it back to normal. It had been recording something on Timer and the recording continued well beyond the proper end time. The same thing happened today - a 30 minute timer that was set to record in the middle of the night was still recording this afternoon, the spinning Vix logo was there, and the UI was completely unresponsive. Again, I had to do a hard reboot.

I've made no changes to the box lately - it's been a pretty reliable performer in the several years I've had it.

Can anyone recommend the best approach to fixing this? Should I reflash? If so, can I use the option to keep my existing settings or am I more likely to resolve the problem if I junk the settings too? I can't upgrade the image because that's the latest version available for this old box.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You can flash and restore the timers and bouquets only. You can then re-apply the settings you want. That is probably the best approach if you want to stay on Vix. See link below for a manual backup, ignore the True/true bit

Alternatively, you can try OpenATV as they still make images for your receiver

Thanks for the advice and instructions - I think I'm just about competent enough to follow them so will give them a go. Thanks also for the OpenATV idea - I'd rather stick with OpenVIX if I can but I guess that I'll have to move sooner or later :-(
