the skin is opaque (see through) - where is the setting in the menu to change this?

As far as I know, it is not a user option. It is the way the skin is designed.
weird, not seen it before on other boxes, just this one.
Maybe post a picture of what you are seeing, not a screenshot.
when you press OK, to show the channel info, signal strength etc, you can see through the skin, i.e 50% transparent.

Then that could be a transparency issue that we have seen on other boxes (like Dinobot) with this skin (it is very good at showing this issue) if so its a firmware issue - only fixable by Zgemma (which is unlikely on H7)
