    replacement for old topfield

    Hi

    I've been happily running a Vu+ Solo2 for a couple of years (Ver4.2.something - if it ain't broke, don't fix it ).
However our old Topfield twin tuner that has been on life support for some time in the bedroom has now died, and i need a replacement.
I had hoped to get another Vu+ box, but all the alternatives that i think are suitable are more than the budget i was hoping to get away with.
I was hoping to upgrade the Solo2 to the latest version and use the same on the new box.

Therefore, can anyone recommend a suitable box that i could use? Requirements are, in no particular order:
can run the same, later (latest?) vix version.
twin DVB-S2 tuners (for 28.8E only)
    SD/HD channels only
    around 250Gb storage.
recordings need to be able to be removed from the box and watched with VLC ("offline")
stream the recordings to the solo2, and vice versa.
    Ethernet
    SPDIF audio out
Budget hopefully less than 150euro, approximately

What i don't need specifically (but if it's included not a problem):
    4K/UHD recordings
    Wifi
    DVB-S2X or TVB-T tuners
IPTV, FBC, or other new/complicated stuff that's going to confuse SWMBO

It's been a few years since i last looked into this and the game has moved on a little and there seems like a world of choice
    Any recommendations or advice?

    Cheers,

    Mal

Many apologies for the delay to reply, life got in the way :|

    Thanks for the recommendations.
Am i right in thinking that i would be able to put the same version of openvix onto both my current Vu+, and whatever else i get?
Seems like most boxes now don;t come with any internal storage - as standard at least.
I've a couple of 300Gb sata HDs spare in USB3 caddys spare. would one of those be suitable, or would a simple USB3 flash device be better?

Each version of openvix is made for that model of box only so if you had 2 different makes it would be 2 different images made and on latest version whatever it is.
Externally powered hdd can be used via usb .

Sorry, perhaps i wasn't specific enough. not thinking of using the exact same build, but the same version on each box.
For example, i can see that:
For the Solo2, version 5.3.016 (11th Feb) is available. And
For the Mio 4k, version 5.3.016 (12th Feb) is also available.
Therefore, apart from the HW specific stuff, both versions should essentially be the same?
Recordings from one box would be watchable on the other?

For the storage, i hadn't considered the power aspect
Probably best to go with a USB flash drive i guess, seeing as trailing cables are not popular hereabouts

    Cheers,

Yeah the images are essentially the same.
microSD card are also a very good storage option if the receiver supports a microSD slot.

My vu solo2 has a 1tb internal hdd and my vu zero has a desktop externally powered toshiba 2tb.
Any enigma2 box using samba can view any recording on all my boxes +nas server for dumping my overloaded boxes to it to give me more space.
There are ways to hide cables if you have many.
