I struggled with this too, initially as I couldn't see why the default is to populate the search term with the current EPG entry which you generally need to delete in order to perform a search. I was using the backspace key to clear the text, but recently found a key which deletes all the text. See screenshot:
I don't have that button on my virtual keyboard. It may be related to a specific skin?

I followed the above instructions to install my native language (danish) with no luck. It still shows the english keyboard. However, in the lower right corner of the keyboard there is a globe button. If you push that you can select your language if available. Danish is not avalable so i selected norwegian, which is very similar. It works fine as long i don't leave the keyboard. When i have left it, it has turned back to english the next time i use it.

What sequence of keys are you using to get the initial keyboard displayed?

Looks like you are correct - virtual keyboard is using English locale although it recognises the Danish/Norwegian languages and then doesn't give an option to save if you select via the globe..
The language setup and locales is being looked at for changes at the moment - so maybe we can fix all your issues over the next few weeks.

I get the virtual keyboard when I do that, as in post #10.

Are you really on 5.3.007 (Menu/Information/About)?

I was using English - GB locale. It would seem that other locales don't have the same options on the virtual keyboard. I couldn't see any option to clear the history list of searches, though. Not sure why you would want that, but it looks like it's only the last 10 searches held in the list. If you perform the same search multiple times the older ones drop off the end.

I don't think there is a a facility in the GUI to clear history. You can press menu while in EPG search, go into the settings and change searches to a number lower than 10.

    Manual way of doing it:
init 4, edit the file called settings in /etc/enigma2, delete the line that starts with
    config.plugins.epgsearch.history=
