I'm thinking of buying new twin satellite version of SF8008 and notice that it doesn't have internal hard drive capability.
Can any owner advise if usb hard drive requires to be self powered or wether unit is able to cope with usb only connection.

I would suggest externally powered as i have 2 usb passports that dont work and 4 desktop hdds externally powered and never any issues.
I have used 2 usb powered drives at a time without issue. Nothing fancy - just cheap 1Tb seagate usb drives from Argos.
