Dumb question alert! Can I use OPENVPN inbound AND outbound

This could be a really dumb question so apologies in advance.

I used to have OPENVPN running on Vix so I could remotely connect with OpenVPN clients (mobile devices) and effectively log into my box remotely and add recording timers etc.

I followed quite a convoluted set of instructions (not sure if on here or an alternate site) where I generated keys for client1 and client2 and then copied some files to my clients to iPhone and Nexus tablets and imported each with an OpenVPN client app. I could then remotely connect to my Vu box over WiFi / 4G VPN Inbound.

I recently invested in IPVanish and have just setup OpenVpn to use my account with their services. (I probably should have gone PIA but paid for 2 years so I'm stuck with them). This enables me to mask my outbound IP.

I do have services with DynDNS which enables me to navigate my way back.

The iOS IPVanish client enables me to mask my mobile IP address but iI can't see a client access tool like OpenVPN.

Is there a way to export the Ipvanish server credentials to an iOS device and open using the openvpn client???

[I told you it may be a dumb question]

I don’t think you can use your ipvanish to connect to your box from outside your network. Ipvanish will only mask your ip.
Do what you were originally doing in your 3rd paragraph.
The easy way is to have a decent router that will generate its own OpenVPN client file. This file then can be installed on the OpenVPN app on devices.
You can also add your ipvanish config files to the router as well if you need to mask your ip. Bear in mind if you if you activate your ipvanish on your router then all devices in the house will be subject to the country/town change.

Thanks for the confirmation @Ashley69 . I’ve reverted to my original setup and can establish a connection. Trouble is I’ve forgotten how i used to use it. I think it was with e2RemotePro or Vu+ HD apps. But although they work on the home LAN I’m struggling to find a config that works remotely with VPN connected. Any recommendations?

These are the 2 apps I have used without any problem. Double check your setup settings. Have you turned on the (enable access fromVPNs) option on the box?
It's in the menu of the openwebif configuration.

Doh! Thanks again @ashley69. It was that setting in the Openwebif plugin. I configure the box and then generally leave it alone apart from SW updates. Think my major flash to v5 probably lost a lot of this. Cheers.
