    Advice on new box please

    Hi all

At the moment I am using a Mutant 2400hd (four tuners) that I bought from wos a couple of years ago. This is hooked up to my sky dish and quad lnb. I might be moving the box onto a friend so am possibly in need of a suitable replacement.
I like the look of a 4k capable box with pvr facilities and I notice that wos sell Gigablue and vu+ models that appear to have good features.
I notice one of the selling points is the fbc tuners that appear to be a good upgrade over the regular style tuners in the Mutant box I have ?
If for instance I opted for the Gigablue UHD Quad receiver would this work ok with my box standard Sky dish/lnb/cable or would anything need upgrading at all ?
I get a little bit confused when some websites say this box can record or view upto 32 programmes at one time !!!

Any advice on the Gigablue box above or maybe the vu+ receivers would be great.

    Thanks

You would need to upgrade your LNB to a Unicable II/JESS LNB to take advantage of the additional tuners (FBC).

As above, full usage will be with a unicable LNB.

However, even with normal/universal LNB, the FBC tuner still has advantages.

Both Giga4K‘s are excellent quality, have really good remotes and have worked flawlessly for me. Driver support has also been good.
Unless you need the UHD extras (larger display, esata connector, hdmi-in etc), I would go for the UE model, which like the UHD offers built in multiboot, allowing you to have multiple images installed and the ability to update in safety or test other images with the option to “flip“ back to another installed image.
    Gigablue Quad 4K & UE 4K
    .........FBC Tuners:
    ------------------> DUR-Line DCR 5-1-8-L4 Multiswitch to 1.5M dish(28.2E)
------------------> Spaun SUS 5581/33 NFA Multiswitch to 80 cm dish(19.2E)
    .......................> FBC & DVB-S2X into 90cm dish (27.5W) Opticum robust Unicable LNB
    AX HD61, Edision Osmio 4K+, Zgemma H9Combo, Octagon SF8008 , gbtrio4k, h9se using Legacy ports on multiswitches
    Zgemma H9 C/S into Giga4K

What advantages are there using an fbc tuner with just the regular sky quad lnb ?

You'll be able to get extra channels thru the automatic loop thru's on the FBC tuners. Bit more than standard twin tuners. Personally I'd recommend replacing the LNB and getting full use out of the FBC tuners.

Thought I'll ask here rather than create another new thread. I too have HD2400 which I'm very happy with. Now someone is interested in similar after coming round to my place. Is there any box available with hardware transcoding support? I've also first hand experience with Mutant HD51 which came as replacement under warranty for HD2400 and absolutely hated the thing. thanks.

It would help if you said why you hated the HD51!
