Question Boot Time - what is everyone's?

    Hi all,
I was wondering what everyone's actual boot times are like for their Vu+ Duo2s?

I am running the latest version have relatively few plugins and am not really doing anything fancy with the box but I dread ever having to reboot it as it can take 5 minutes or more to restart.
    1. is this normal?
    2. What can I check to see why it takes this long?

The reason I ask is I recently configured a brand new box for my sister. When it first arrived, with the default settings and pre-loaded image, it booted fairly quickly, but as soon as I upgraded it using a copy of my image as a starting point it too slowed right down.

Any clues would be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Daran.

Boot Time - what is everyone's?

Something wrong if its taking 5 mins to boot.
As a test, I would reflash using latest ViX image (5.1.033) and after the initial setup (FIW), then reboot and see what that brings you? You can always restore your settings from a saved backup afterwards, that way you’ll know if something within your settings/setup is slowing things down.
Also note, you are not saving your EPG data to your internal flash are you? How many Bouquets have you got setup?
But going back to my previous point, reflash and test and report back please.

It wont have anything to do with, if relevant, EPG being saved to HDD as that's my setup and I don't have an issue.

Problem could be HDD/USB failure (or failing) so image is spending a bit longer trying to mount it.

I agree with Andy and flash latest version without restore of settings or any additional plugins and reboot and see how long that takes on bootup after image has been installed.

Disconnecting HDD is a good test to conduct.

    Hi Andy,
My EPG is saved to /media/hdd which is my hard drive.
I have 44 bouquets in total... about half are iptv (not sure if that makes any difference)
I also mount three CIFS shares from my Western Digital My Cloud device - would that cause any delays?

    Regards,

    D.

    Solved it!!!

thanks for the replies everyone... one of my replies actually set me off on a search and I finally found the cause of the problem.

My network mounts have changed IP address a few times over the last couple of years but it looks like my box was still trying to mount the old versions too... which would also explain why in Locations I had some extra mounts that were not reachable.

Basically, I edited /etc/auto.network and removed all of the redundant links and my box now boots in about a minute (since it isn't waiting for failed mounts!)

    Thanks everyone!
