Another option available to you is to record on the HDD of one of your other receivers using the local network.
You can still use a USB flash drive for backups etc.

If you really mean mini (rather than micro) I could post you mine (I'll never need it again). PM me your address.
Doesn't really matter, but I don't recall ever seeing a Y-power cable with a female back-end. Mind you, I don't recall ever looking specifically for one.I take it that it is better to get a y cable that fits directly into the HDD rather than use a generic y cable (2 male, 1 female USB) and plug in the HDD cable.
EDIT: OK, they do £1.75 (free p&p) on EBay.

I am not too familiar with the process. Have a look at section 7.12 of the ViX manual. There may be a bug that requires the installation of samba even though it is not used.
I would have thought samba was needed to discover other boxes on network when scanning.
First of all do you have other e2 boxes and have samba enabled on all and your other box is mounted?
I would think you setup a new location that is the os mini+ to record to,that would be in the os mega in Recording and Playback.
Thanks guys I got it all sorted both receivers now share same HDD

If size isn't an issue, then go for USB. But it's a different issue altogether if you feel 128 gigs or 256 are too little for you might eventually run out.
