why are images shipped with an empty root password?

would it not make sense to generate a random password that the user can look up in the menu system?

my question is. why?

i've been checking and i get hit by script kiddies continuously.

i noticed that my network was slow. i had been flashing my box recently to try to get around a crash.

while checking the logs i realised that somebody had been logging in.

i suspect they had been rm'ing /tmp/* and causing the crashes. that or they were filling flash.

right royal pain in the a**e.

So you've connected your box such as to allow incoming connexions from the Internet?
Why?

its blank, as all you need to do is enter username and that's it. in some cases you need to enter the password/ you can change password /username to your choice.
