    Dvb-s2x

Can someone explain in lamens terms what this new generation of tuners DVB-S2X gives me over the standard DVB-S2?

I'm looking at the Mutant HD51 and Octagon SF4008 (triple tuner configuration) and would like to know what features this tuner gives me

Ive read it gives 'multi stream' capabilities , what will this give me day to day ?

Currently French and Italian public service channels. Not much else. Those transport streams are not DTH, they are for re-transmission over terrestrial.

Do not confuse DVB-S2X and multistream. New tuners, like in Mutant and Octagon, support both, but they are totally different trasmission types. DVB-S2X is an evolution of DVB-S2, it better uses available bandwidth on satellite transponders, but it is not used by many broadcasters yet. Particularly for feeds (one of possible DVB-S2X usage), many broadcasters prefer Novelsat NS3/NS4 modulation. Actual multistream trasmissions use normal DVB-S2 transponders, in which more than one stream is broadcasted at the same time, so particular receivers are needed for decoding. I hope this helps.

Hello, I followed previous reply. Italian and french channels at 5 West are not DVB-S2X, they are DVB-S2 Multistream.

    Hi,

So if what you say is correct then a Tuner that is DVB-S2 should be able to get the Multistream Channels from the 5 west French & Italian but this is not the case because if the Tuner is not a DVB-S2X then the Multistream will not work, or if you can give more info on what you have said then it maybe usefull.

    Regards Talks.

I try to explain. A tuner can receive DVB-S2, DVB-S2X or both. In addition, it could be Multistream capable or not, regardless of modulation types available in it. A tuner can be Multistream capable without being DVB-S2X capable, these are two different things. For example, some DVB-S2 tuners in very cheap chinese decoders can receive Multistream channels but not DVB-S2X. Latest tuner in my Dreambox DM920 is both Multistream and DVB-S2X capable. Hope this helps.
