Are you asking how to access the recorded files? Or are you plugging in a USB stick to watch files?

Maybe the usb drive goes to sleep after a period of time, and doesn't/can't wake up to play recordings?

Is it a powered usb drive?

Do you have a debug log covering the time that his happens?

@birdman it doesn't crash only goes to black screen with full functionality of stop and play buttons

Usb drives really need to powered. I'm not sure what happens when they're not, but it's not recommended.

...maybe that's the answer, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't?

    Yes, I realize that.
But if you have a debug log (not a crash log, which you won't have) it might give an indication of what is going on at the time.

...you need to switch on debug logs, and then reboot.

(might be a problem there, as they'll probably need to be stored on the usb drive, but it will be interesting to see if recordings start working ok.)
