There was an issue previously which was meant to be fixed. As you have not said what image type and build version you are using, cannot compare with you.

No problems here playing .avi files on build 030.

Nothing special needs to be done. You just select the file.

Encode the files properly & shouldn't be an issue.

I understand i can encode files but what is a bit strange what box can't play files normally. My tvs shity media player plays all files and 200 pounds sat box can't do it.

A £200 or even a £500 sat box doesn't guarantee smooth playback of all files thrown at it.
It does what it should & does it well. Anything else, including playing properly encoded non .ts streams is a bonus.

An old outdated plugin won't help, neither will any other plugin that I know of.
GStreamer is in constant development & updated regularly so maybe playpack of certain files will improve in the future, but for now, best to encode to a format your box is designed to use.
Also, some manufacturers are better than others driver/kernel wise with issues like this.

I have expensive media players, that can play any format video/audio, but if the file has been copied/compressed incorrectly then they stutter or worse stop ..... But on my PC the same files normally are playable.

Yes valerie plugin didn't helped at all. I will have to use my tvs media player with one play everything with no issue.
