Google’s Nexus Player, the company’s first device to feature the Android TV platform, will launch in the UK on March 26th. The Asus made device is available for £79.99 (€104) – £20 more than the recently price-cut Apple TV.

The Nexus Player will ship with a modified version Android Lollipop, and will reportedly automatically update itself to version 5.1 of Google’s OS.

Originally announced in October 2014, the Nexus Player boasts more features than Google’s Chromecast dongle. The device is ‘Google Cast-ready’, allowing users to cast movies, music, and other entertainment content from their tablet, smartphone, or laptop to their TV, and Android TV also offers gaming (either via an optional gamepad or via using the device as a controller). In addition, the remote supports voice commands.

Nexus Player will launch with popular apps such as Netflix and YouTube, but UK catch-up apps (such as BBC iPlayer) are not so far confirmed for the device.
