Setting Static IP for Tenda W150m on VU Solo2

    Hi,

I hope someone can help with this really frustrating problem.

Running a VU Solo2 with Vix and connected to broadband via a Tenda W150m.

My internet connection drops quite often (separate issue) and each time it does so my Tenda loses its connection. The only way to get it reconnected again is to connect it to the PC and go through the set-up process again (even though all the settings are still there from the previous time). Then I reconnect it to my Solo2 and all is fine till the next connection drop.

To get round this I switched DHCP off at the Solo2 and set a static IP address 192.168.1.101 (in the Solo2 only, not the Tenda which has an IP of 192.168.2.1)

When I connect the Tenda back to the Solo2, I can see the Solo2 static IP in my router, so I bound that IP to the Solo2 to prevent anything else from using it.

Despite this, the Tenda will still randomly drop that IP and connect via a new IP..... even with DHCP being off, and it will no longer stay connected to the Solo2.

The MAC address I see in the router stats associated with 192.168.1.101 is the Tenda MAC..... never the Solo2 MAC address.

So what I need to do is somehow set-up the Tenda so that if my internect connection drops it will automatically reconnect without me having to set the whole thing up over and over again.

I'm wondering if this is an actual fault with the Tenda, or if somehow I've not set it up incorrectly because I've not read anything of anyone else with the same problems.

If someone can help I'd be really grateful..... any screen shots you need and I'll provide them.

    Many thanks.

    1st of all RS2000 MK1,2,5 or 6?

What I do on my router is to set the VU+ as a fixed ip but leave the box as DHCP.
That way the router tells the box what it's ip is.

    Thanks for the reply marty.

Not sure what version the Tenda is.... I'd hazard a guess its the Mk5 or Mk6 as its brand new (mid January), but unsure how to check for certain.

I've tried setting a static ip in the router for the box.... but it still disconnects when my internet goes down and I have to re-set up the Tenda for it to connect again even though all the settings are still saved.... basically plug Tenda into PC, go through set-up just by clicking next....next....next etc, then it reboots, then I reconnect it to the box and it works again.

Also I set up a network adapter on the PC for the Tenda so I can wirelessly access the Tenda configuration page..... but again, once internet goes down, when it comes back up I can no longer connect wirelessly to the Tenda.... have to plug it back into PC and go through the setup again.

Here's screen shots of my entire network....

The MAC address ending in 71 is the Tenda, whilst the MAC address ending in 13 is the Solo2.

I didn't previously have anything in the "default gateway" and "preferred dns server" sections of the adapter settings - I just added them today to see if it makes a difference.

Also don't understand why the Tenda says it has 2 connected clients.... its only the box that's connected (unless it classes my router as a client).

If anyone can spot somewhere where I've gone wrong, it would be much appreciated:

The part I find difficult to understand is the fact that IP ending 101 is linked to both the Tenda MAC address and the VU Solo MAC address, yet clearly the Tenda has a different IP address. Wondering if there's some part of the configuration thats causing a conflict.... but like I said, everything works fine until suddenly the Tenda can no longer connect to my router and needs setting up again.
