    Lightbulb Feature request: channel input

    Hello,

I would like to request some features related to inputting channel numbers using the remote control:

    1. Change the channel input timeout, i.e. the time from pressing a channel number to the time where the channel change is actioned? For instance, the user begins to type a channel number (e.g. 401): 4.....0..... but before they have time to press the final button, the box reaches the preset timeout and either changes to an unwanted channel or does nothing. Either way, the input 40 is lost and the user needs to start again.

    2. Change the behaviour upon inputting a full 3-digit number. I.e. once the user has input a full channel number (401), I would like the box to immediately zap to that channel. Currently, there is a preset delay before zap action is taken and I don't quite see why. 4-digit numbers don't exist yet?

The above are particular issues for elderly relatives using boxes I have installed for them recently, hence my request. In general, what I have described above is how OEM Sky boxes generally behave.

Other than this, thank you for a fantastic image and keep up the good work!

It's not a bug or hardware issue at all - just a suggestion. As I mentioned above, this would benefit elderly people who can spend 5 seconds finding and pressing each numerical button on the remote control. You've got to see it to believe it!

In that case, could it become an option under OSD settings: 'Behaviour once 3 digits have been input'? [ none / zap-to ]

ad 2: after inputting the last number you can push 'OK' to immediately execute the command.

And making again an extra setting for this seems way overdone (to me).

It would make a big difference to me.

Tell me how much your time would cost to incorporate these two features and I will make a donation to ViX for that amount.

To me, the waiting on 4 number input is too long, but as Rob says, use the OK button to kill the waiting time after you enter the channel number.
I keep my favourites on 1, 2, 3 and so on, maybe you could try setting it up like that for your elderly relatives if they don't have enough time for a 3 number input?

This is not about money. We are not working for money, but to get a real good hobby-image. This is about the fact that there are already far too many settings in the image.

And you tried the 'OK'-trick? I use it all the time for channel on lower numbers.

    Hi,
the first point is not a bad idea. I know how my mother changes channel and that can be really slow.

For the second point OK is the best solution.

Could look into this, although after years of memorising numbers '784' etc they are very stuck in their ways lol! Thanks for the tip though.

Appreciate this, just thought if resources were the limiting factor in incorporating these features then I could help you overcome that.

Yes, in my house we press OK every time 3 digits are entered to avoid the delay. However, an extra button to press makes a big difference to elderly people. Besides, the time it takes them to find and press OK would almost negate the benefit of pressing it.

I think many people are on 28.2E (fixed dish) and therefore using channels up to 999 only. A simple toggle would be a welcome improvement on what is already a great image.

I was under the impression that feature requests were considered rather than summarily dismissed. Just because it would involve an extra setting (or two), doesn't mean it is a bad idea!

Thanks again for all the hard work.

Feature requests are always welcomed and we where possible will look into doing what we can to incorporate those requests into the image, that being said we also have to consider how those changes will impact on the image it self and other users. We simply can't fulfil every request we receive and the image does not only tailor for 28.2 east. We will look into your suggestions a d let you know what ( if ) we can do to help.

I think you forget the international and hobby-community: ViX is being used world wide. Only a limited number of people use a box as a Sky-box replacement, many will have thousands of channels.

I doubt you will get an answer for an old thread and old box now as image support has finished.
