Your first issue is which image, there are multitude of images have a browse of the forum and pick one you like than can do the rest of configuration.

If you want it to connect it to a laptop it will need to be connected to your network, for that the DM can be connected either by wifi or hardwired. The sponsor sells a tenda wifi module as well as homeplugs tht will enable you to do that

Once done, you should be able to see the DMin your network onthe laptop or tbrough your browser by entering the ip addy of the dm

A file transfer proggy like cute ftp or flash ftp, this allows you to connect to the box, as you will need to work in the box for bouqeuts, services,connection line, etc,,,etc,,,
You will however need to be connected to the internet, so you will have to connect to your router, with a rj45 straight ethernet cable, to get your self an ip address for your box,
You will have to download an image that is compatable with your box, i do believe they are on this site in the downloads for the dreambox box... just for starters m8 !!!

sorry, just to add, you can use dreamup to install your image straight to the box from your lappy, if you are not to familiar with the fts programs....

can i connect dreambox wid my cable instead of connecting it wid my dish ? thxs guys realy appriciet ur help. and do i need to connect my dreambox to put file on my to my laptop wid ethernet wire ?

if it's a DM500's ie a satellite receiver then it must be connected to a satellite dish in order to receive it's channels, if it's a DM500'C then it's a cable receiver and must be connected to a cable tv feed.

if you want to connect to your box with dream up, then you will need an RS232 data cable, as you do not need an ip addess to install the image, so you do not need an ethernet [ RJ54 ] cable

yeah now i get you. no you dont need the box to be connected to the dish while flashing but you will need a RS232 null modem cable to flash the box as using the lan network port with dreamup can be very buggy and cause more problems for you if the flash does not complete.

you need to allocate a com port to it

look in device manager and look at comport then set that com port to dreamup

looks like you dont have com drivers installed

you either need a direct com port or comm to usb and drivers need to be installed for dreamup to recognise and continue install

i got rs 232 to usb cable. i need drivers for it to make dreamup work can u plzz show me a way for it
