Hello:D
i've not used a smargo for some years, used it on a DB800 i want to test it out on my 9000, but i've forgot the serial reader line, i have read some postings on the subject but i'm still not lucid on the subject so is the serial reader line tts? or tty? ie SERIAL READER : /dev/usb/tty/0 smartreader+.........and here's the dumbo question chip up or down, i've tried both ways and it's not working at all.

Post 13 here http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?410-smargo-and-Vu/page2&highlight=smargo
Chip up I believe.

Thanks Boss
and that was your posting i went to, so i had the chip the right way round "up"
and this is the line i have now: SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0 smartreader+
rebooted and restarted the cam
and still nothing clearing...................anything else i can try?
i'm sure all my other settings are ok boxkey etc and i always over clock my card to 5.5 Mhz and if i remember correctly it worked reall well in the 800:D
thanks & regards: canthackit

ok Boss:D
shame on you you told me wrong it's chip down:rolleyes: i thought it was chip up as well though.
must say just as i had hoped the ecm times are significantly faster:thumbsup:
so just to reiterrate it's:
SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0 smartreader+
chip down.
thanks and regards: canthackit
By significantly, how significantly?! From around 0.400? Or were they higher/lower?

Hello PF
on the internal readers i was getting round about .247ms
on the smargo i'm getting round about .150ms
then again the readers on my Vu+ are very low, low 100's 102, 103

I would suggest trying oscam/cccam combo, as oscam gives good ecm times, in cases <0.100 ... Saying that, even with around 0.250, you shouldn't be getting any problems...

Yes, otherwise it wont have a boxkey, hence black screen;)
Hey guys a little help would be deeply appreciated.
I have got a sly white card in my et9000 which works pretty good in a smargo reader with oscam that is till i reboot my box then it wont initialize my card to start decoding.
If i use the internal readers all works fine. I would prefer the smargo though.
Any help would be great,Thanks.

How do u get it reading the smargo before it restarts and doesn't initialise the card?
What image are u using?
Are u using cccam/oscam? Does cccam take control of the card before oscam can? (Would happen if cccam starts before oscam)

Hello there, thanks for your interest.
I am using openpli image.Also i am using mgcamd/oscam.
The strange thing is that if i start using cccam and then stop it and start mgcamd/oscam everything works fine.
But if i restart my box and start with mgcamd/oscam, smargo does not work.
I have to stop oscam, start cccam, stop cccam, and finally start oscam for smargo to work.
I know it sounds weird but thats how it works.Actually the same thing happened on my old dm7020
Changed to VIX 2.2 today but the problem with the smargo still exists.
Where can i enable debug logs for this image?
Thanks.
if you go to Menu/Setup/System/Logs/Settings

When you install& configure the cams in vix, did u ensure u did oscam to autostart first?
Go in to softcam manager, and disable both from starting. Then, tell oscam to auto start, then start oscam. Then tell cccam to autostart, and start cccam. Then check that card is read.
Then, restart box, and see if it's read...

Thank you pooface i have done this and they seem to start properly (mgcamd always needs manual restart though).
The thing is that oscam does recognize the smargo, but does not initialize the card by itself.
have to run cccam till the card opens then stop cccam and start oscam for the card to work.
Is there a chance that the smargo is not properly configured ? What smargo settings do you use ?
Where can i find the softcam autostartup script for the VIX image so i can put some kind of a delay for mgcamd to start about 30 sec after oscam ? Is this possible.
Thanks all for there precious help !
Sorry, I don't have a smargo, so cannot say for sure. What card are u using? And what are ur settings for oscam? Maybe u should change them if not working properly?!

I have a s*y uk card, if i use internal reader all is fine with my configs, the problem exists only with smargo.
I am afraid to use et9000īs internal reader because of temperature or voltage issues that might damage the card (as like dreambox internal readers).
It is annoying though that all is perfect except for this problem i am having.
I would not worry about the ET9K reader, I have had a sly card in there and its been fine.
Thanks for your reply.
Do you have good ecm times in the internal reader ?
Because i had some pixelization issues due to long ecm times.
I would appreciate deeply if some one has a good working oscam configuration file for sly card in smargo.
Thank you.

@ olerocker
i was getting mosaicing using the internal card reader even with it overclocked to 5.5 Mhz i was still getting ecm times of around .247 ms i now use a smargo and it's shaved .100 ms off the times i now get readings of around .140 ms.
hope this helps.

Does the card get hotter by overclocking?

not overly in mine mate, it does run warm tho.
i do have a fan blowing over the top of the unit so that's an added precaution.
should have added that the card does run cooler in the smago.

Sly card runs great in smargo but I am still having issues getting it to start on et9000 reboot.
where can i get oscam stable version with smartreader support ?
Anybody knows ?
Its probably because oscam is starting before the usb to serial drivers load not much you can do about that
Latest versions are available here
http://download.oscam.to/index.php
BTW a thanks would be nice
Thanks for your interest, but its not the usb to serial drivers.
I can start the box without any softcam and after everything boots i run oscam and nothing.
Run cccam kill it then oscam then it works.
coded live link, please can members remember to code links when posted on the forum.
thanks.

Do a ps from telnet when you first start it I bet oscam is not in the list.
Also if you have CCcam running it will grab the port before oscam
Try this in CCcam.cfg
SERVER LISTEN PORT : 0
Thanks friend Alias1,
Apparently i have not explained my situation properly. My problem is not the autostart of oscam,that works fine.
The problem is that oscam can not initialize the card from startup by itself.
I have to run cccam till the card opens, and when that happens, I kill cccam and then start up oscam for it to work properly.
This only happens with the smargo, my other card that is in the internal reader works fine.
If i use my card in the internal that works fine to, but i prefer the smargo do to better ecm times.
I use cccam only to initialize my card in the beginning, for no other reason.
Thanks friend Alias1,

When you start oscam the first time (when card is not initialised), can you get the contents of the log and post it? Then, when the card is initialised, post the contents of the oscam log again? Just so that can compare the 2 results to see if there's something showing why it's not initialising?!

I say again I dont think oscam is opening the port if you like PM me your log of oscam when it fails to run and I will tell you for sure what the problem is.
Also make sure CCcam is not autostarting in fact before you run either of them do a ps from telnet and post the output here
Another thing to try is from telnet type dmesg before running oscam and see if that fixes the problem
Thank yo friends for your replies.

It does not seem to be picking up the atr of the sky UK card
Just out of curiosity does it pick the card up if you remove the card then reinstall it plus on web interface does it say card ok ?? when its not working
Hi,
In the web interface it says card needs initializing then card error. If i take it out and then put it back in I have the same result.
For some reason cccam reads it properly and keeps it active for oscam afterwards.
Looking at the first log, it appears that it's detected the irdeto card. Then, in the second log, it's detected the nds card...
My guess, is that oscam has found the card in the card slot before the smargo, and it using that?!
What happens if you remove the irdeto card, so all you have is the smargo with the nds card in it?
Well I know that both cards are working in the second log, but i will try what you suggest by taking out irdeto card and using just the smargo and will report back.
Thanks
Started box without irdeto card but didnt have any changes, also tried Alias1 suggestion by pulling out card and reinserting it but still no success.
Also got this from log:
2011/08/03 18:40:03 2B3114B0 r smargo init
2011/08/03 18:40:04 2B3114B0 r skyuk card detected

Which probably means that what friend Alias1 said about smargo not reading atr of card is probably right.
But what does this mean and how can fix I this ?
P.S. I would like to add that the sly card works properly when inserted in the internal slot, and I have also tried another smargo with the same results.
Okay first thing we can try is change the frequency of the smargo lower it.
Also do you have another box you can test the smargo on with the configuration you are using for oscam???
Hello and good day,
The smargo is set to auto but i have tried it on fixed frequency of 3.65 mhz and had the same result.
Also i have tried my configuration on my old 7020 and again i had the same problem.
Here is my config :
[reader]
label = skyuk
protocol = smargo
device = /dev/ttyUSB0
blockemm-u = 0
blockemm-s = 0
blockemm-g = 1
blockemm-unknown = 1
group = 2
emmcache = 1,3,2
caid = 0963
ident = 0963:000000
boxid = 00000000
enable = 1
Thanks for any help.
well, canthackit said that he had it working from smargo. Was that using oscam or just cccam canthackit? If from oscam, can you post your config to check that the OP has correct config? :)

try this setup and see what it gives ya
[reader]
label = skyuk
enable = 1
protocol = smartreader
device = /dev/ttyUSB0
smargopatch = 1
caid = 0963
boxid = hexhex
detect = cd
mhz = 500
cardmhz = 500
ident = 0963:000000
group = 1
blockemm-unknown = 1
blockemm-g = 1
lb_weight = 150
@ silverfox0786 setting the device as smartreader wont work, well it will work once but as the kernel is to old on these boxes when you stop oscam and restart it it does not close the USB port and reopen the USB port correctly.
That configuration you posted is best for a box running debian or something similar where the kernel is 30 or higher.
Also UNLESS you set the frequency when using mouse mode on the smargo itself it will give shit ecm times.
What I would like the OP to try is the irdeto card in the smargo and see if that produces the same problem.
The solution I posted above works both on my vu+duo and et9000 and trust me I tested both boxes for hours.
One thing to check your smargos are geniune right???
Also before you run any emu on the box reboot it and type dmesg from telnet and see if the FTDI device is mounted in the telnet output
Hi friends,
After doing a few of the suggested tests I am back with my report.
1. I have tried Silverfox0786 settings with no luck i get a message reporting to recompile with smartreader support.
2. Tried with irdeto card only in smargo and get the same result with nds card, also oscam crashes alot with only one card in smargo.
3. Dont no if smargos are genuine or not but i do have 2 of them, and have the same problem with both (1 is actually an older model than the other).
4. dmesg reports that FTDI drivers are up and running before emus.
Thanks
Have you tried downloading the latest version of oscam and replacing the one you are using with the latest version? Might be a problem with the version of oscam?
I have tried many different versions of oscam all with same the same outcome.
Now i am using 1.10rc #5729.
This behavior is really puzzling, i really dont know what else to try.

there is yr problem
smargo stopped working in oscam from version 5175 after that smargo stopped working as it cant compile LIBUSB needed for smargo
and keeps saying recompile with smartreader support
Good day friends,
I have tried older versions of oscam (4680, 4693) and when using smartreader protocol have had the same message (recompile with smartreader support).
Is there a particular version that you can suggest to me to use ?
Anyway thanks to all for there help i will be on a 2 week vacation away from my box so any further tests will have to be when i return.
Again thanks to all.
Hello friends,
Just to let anyone interested know that i finally got the smargo to operate properly.
This is what i did :
1) Set smargo to fixed frequency (do not use auto), (mhz 369)
2) In oscam.server file put protocol to mouse and add cardmhz to card frequency (for s@y uk card to 369)
and mhz to smargo fixed frequency (mhz 369).
3) Reboot machine.
The cardmhz, mhz commands in oscam.server file are mandatory, it will not work without them.
Thanks guys for all your previous help.
