I tried to update picons on my friends box which are stored on his hdd but for some reason I dont have permission to modify/delete/overwright files which are on his hdd. I can update files in other locations eg etc/enigma2
Any suggestions?
Put VU+ in standby, see if that works.
try changing the CHMOD properties for that location to 755.

If you are able to get a ssh session to the box...then do as Phoenix mentioned above.
at the prompt.....do a....
chmod 755 /dir/filename
Then try to write to the dir.

Sorry for late reply, but when I try telnet the command I get the following:

chmod: /media/hdd/: Read-only file system

Just wont write to HDD by the looks of it which will also explain why his EPG wont work.

Did some googling and it could possibly because the hdd is still ntfs and not ext3 does anyone know how I can format and re-intitalise using telnet commands or even checking the file system?
You cando it by going into menu/setup/system/hdd/initialize and that wikl format into ext3 and mount it correctly for ya

why you tring to chmod your whole hdd
anyway to chmod a directory
chmod -R 755
you cant chmod a hdd thatas why u get that error as for cross epg
set it up in the image to go to hdd and it will work
delete the crossepg folder fromm hdd and epg.dat first
then download
