I have recently purchased a VU+ Duo for the front room and its up and running perfectly with ViX etc and Sly.

Im wanting a second box upstairs, and was wondering what other choices I had that were cheaper.

HD isn't a must but would be a bonus, Sly channel support is a must.

Thanks in advance.

If you want a cheap and cheerful non linux HD box you cant go wrong with a OPENBOX S10 HD/PVR SATELLITE RECEIVER

plenty on ebay around £70 delivered there very basic boxes but for a bedroom there great little boxes

forgot to say there is no scart socket on the s10 hdmi only

Check these out from our sponsor: -

Linux but not HD TM500 Super Enigma 1, proberbly has the best picture quality at this price range http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/Technomate-TM500-Super

For non-linux HD receiver look at the Blade BM7000s and TM5402

http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/Technomate-TM-5402HD

For a Linux HD receiver that works with ViX and works as well as your Duo look at the ET5000

ALL the above have FULL UK warranty support ;)

Yup i agree with the lads!

Cheap TM500 would do the job great!...

I have a dm500s myself great little powerful box!.. Would do the job aswell..

But if its just to use off your Vu go for an openbox s9!

Its closed sourced linux so there isn't much you can chop and change but the HD picture is meant to be top class and if your lucky you can pick up a bargain for around £70...

Thanks for all the replies guys.

As i'm new to this side of things, what are the advantages of having a linux box, does it need to support linux to use CCcam etc?

Additionally I would like a box that doesn't rely on the VU duo to work (not sure if any do) as I occasionally move it about.

Im just after a plug and play box that will support CCcam and support the same channels as the Vu Duo but without all the features (except hopefully HD)

It doesn't need to support linux to have ccam as such!

Linux software can be updated and changed around using different images...

Its open sourced like..

Where as closed source like the openbox and to a degree the spiderbox also use CCAM aswell...

Thanks for the reply itsjustme.

I guess I just want the best value HD box then (dont want PVR) which works with CCcam for Sly channels.

Do anycome pre-setup so I just need to add CCcam details?

So if I bought this one:

What steps are required to enter my CCcam details and start watching? Do I need to flash it or anything myself?

I'd recommend the openbox s9..

Hd.... PVR... CCAM... Good support...

Just make sure its an origanal not a clone!

I don't know anything about the blade myself mate sorry!

Does it rely on the Vu Duo? As you said "just to use off your vu"

Thanks,

Yeh u will need to flash it with modded firmware which can be found on this forum. Then enter the hidden cam menu by pressing 9991 and entering the pin and there you enter ur cccam details

The blade media is a great box have used one my self there is plenty of info in the sticky's in the blade media section

to use CCcam on the blade media you must flash a image which has a "p" in the image name like this one BM7000s-122p-08-04-11 this gives you access to a secret setup menu

Thanks,

Yup it relies on the Vu if you know what i mean..

Can't really say much more, its against the rules!

The lads know more about the blade so consider all options before making a choice!

I want a box that will work without the Vu as I may be replacing it with this cheaper one in the long run...

The BM7000S seems perfect..

Sounds like a nice box the blade actually!

Guessing its not a closed source box and you can put in the boxkey for the most popular UK package like the rest of the linux boxes ya?

punisher

No its not a linux box cant do any customising other than use cccam or newcamd and download a channel list via the box
