problem with widescreen (2.35:1) mkv

My movies do not play with correct aspect ratio on my VU+Duo. For recoding I cropped them to e.g. 720x436 but with correct aspect ratio in it. The box is playing them as 16/9 on my TV so that the content is streched vertically. My AV setting is 16:9 letterbox for >16:9. I also tried AspectRatioSwitch but it does not work in this case. All mkvs play fine on a PC (e.g. VLC, MPclassic...)
With my HTPC (MediaPortal, connectet to the same TV) this also works fine.
Btw. 4:3 movies are displayed correct with pillarbox, and of cause 16:9 also.
Any ideas ?
How do I get the black bars on top and bottom ?
Current Image is Vti2.6, would this work with VIX ?

In the settings (menu -> setup -> system -> a/v settings), what do you have for the "Display 4:3 content as" and "Display > 16:9 content as"? On mine, I have 4:3 as Pillarbox and 16:9 as Letterbox, and all movies display correctly in their native aspect ratio... So, if you have the correct settings there, and also disabled the AspectRatioSwitch plugin, then it must be your tv settings...
