In this tutorial I am going to show you how to put picons onto usb stick. This is 1 of a few ways of doing this and for me this is easier than unplugging usb plugging back in etc lol

For this you need a usb stick formatted as fat32 or ext3 and the usb to be mounted correctly in device manager as media/usb
You can check if this is the case by going to Menu/Setup/ViX/Devices Manager and should look like this below;

8413

If your usb isnt mounted correctly then press "Green" to setup mounts then highligh usb and use you left and right arrows on your remote to get to media/usb and then press "Green" to save the settings

8414

Download your desired picon set from the link below and extract the file

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/forumdisplay.php?35-Picons

Once usb setup correctly you will need to connect via FTP into the box
For those that don't know how to setup FTP to the box then follow the first few steps of this guide to get your ftp setup

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?8704-How-to-Install-CCcam-MGCamd-Others-on-Duo-Solo-Uno-ET9000-ET5000-ViX&p=64577#post64577

Once connected to your box you should see the screen below (or similar)

8415

Go to media/usb/ and create a folder in there called picon. so it should look like the screen below

8416

Then transfer all the images from the picon set that you downloaded into the picon folder and once complete it should look like so

8417

Reboot the box if needed and the picons will be displayed in the info bar

8422

If you also want the picons to be displayed in the epg then press the epg button on your remote and then menu

If using PIG (Picture in Graphics) then you will need your settings to match below;

84198418

If not using PIG (Picture in Graphics) then you will need your settings to match below;

84208421

And thats it you now have picons setup on your ViX Image :D

Hi,

got all picons setup and running properly on VIX 2.1 but for some reason since VIX 2.0 I have been unable to get them displayed in the EPG. I've got all my settings as yours there but still no joy. Picons show up fine on the channel info. Any ideas?

thanks

Yes mate I've restarted a number of times since I've had this issue for a while. Also the USB drive is mounted as USB.

Have u tried updating to 2.2 as the tutorial above was really for 2.2 but should still work with 2.1

Oh I thought that was an older post. I'll leave it be for the moment then as I've got everything else running sweetly and don't wanna stir things up by upgrading.

have you tried just restarting the box and seeing if that brings the picons back in the epg?

rob76

Yeah mate restart didn't work. Here's a screenshot of the channel info that shows picons work there (I've changed my skin since the screenshot I posted earlier).

I cant see what is wrong with the settings you posted above they seem to match what i have and the fact that ur picons show in channel infobar suggest that picons are set ok otherwise they wouldnt even show up in there. where are you picons stored anyway? also have you had a look in menu/setup/vix/devices manager and what is the devices in there mounted as?

rob76

Picons are stored in /media/usb/picon and I'm attaching a screenshot of my devices...

everything looks perfect mate same as mine. i really dont know what could be the problem. if in doubt u could always try a reflash of the latest image and see if that sorts it if u want. but im not too sure unless someone can see something i am missing lol

ah no worries mate thanks anyway it's not too important. Must be some gremlin in the box. If I find myself a couple hours I might stick 2.2 on there.

cheers

just format it via the devices manager to ext3 or reformat it on ur laptop to fat32

But it already is FAT32 according to the laptop!

But the Duo is saying FAT16 R/W which is baffling me.

try formatting it with this tool

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?45-USB-Format-Tool

see if that makes the duo recognise it as fat32. see if it works with the picons too

Just remembered that I used this same usb to flash the image and it worked so just follwed the above guide and it has worked a treat though one anomaly I have noticed.

I use the rytec uk epg and noticed after install of the picons that the epg was empty.

I had to download the 7 days once again but now all seems well.

Hi redout,

Did you manage to sort this?

I'm experiencing exactly the same behaviour.
My picons are in /media/usb/picon they show up fine when changing channels, but refuse to display within the ViX EPG.

I'm using ViX 2.3 with a Vu Duo.

Have you enabled picons in epg? Go to epg and press menu then settings

Hi Punisher, Thanks for the reply.

Yes I had turned it on and off a number of times and rebooted a few times too.
I have managed to get the picons to display by reducing the number of lines (channels) showed from the default of 11 down to 6. They then magically appeared. It seems that with 10 channels the icons still stay there but with 11 they are gone completely.

So the solution is to reduce the number of channels shown.

If you mount picons via usb , does usb have to remain in usb port on box all the time to work?

Hi!

I am running following setup;
Devicename: Vu+ Ultimo
Enigma Version: Jun 28 2012
Image Version: 2.4
Frontprozessor Version: VNone
Webinterface Version: 1.6.8

My problem is the other way around, compared to the discussion earlier, regarding the picons. That is, I can see all picons in VIX EPG, but they do not show up in the Channel info. Anyone experienced this, and any ideas to overcome the problem?

Regards,
Johan

kvarnstj

Picons are stored in /media/usb/picon
As said above, I can see the picons in the VIX EPG just fine, but in the channel info they are not shown. Can e.g. height/width ratio or other things about the pictures themselves matter? What factors can prevent the picture to be seen in the channel info, but still seen in the EPG? I have tried several skins also, but result is always the same.

Which picon set do you use just out of curiosity?

kvarnstj
11-07-12, 11:17
Hi!

I don't use any specific picon set, since I couldn't find any set for free-to-air channels (DVB-T and C) in Finland. I made my own set. That's why I wonder if there's any rules of picture size/ratio etc. in order for it to work. At least the naming of the pictures in the picon directory seems to be correct as they show up in the epg.
