Is there anyway to format the hdd within the vu to save taking it out or does this not need to be done

if it's installed & working, it's formatted as a linux filesystem, no need for defrag, that's a windows thingy...

The other thing you might want to do, is to run the filesystem check. iirc, it's under menu -> settings -> system -> hdd -> filesystem check. This will ensure that it's consistent. But, linux hdds don't need defragging...

I can remember the thread but this has been asked b4 and the reply was Linux ext systems don't ever need defrag due to the file system they have I think it was Sicilian or andyblac that said this and gave a link y
