Remember reading about this a while back... As long as you use certain type of paint (iirc, it's the type of paint used to spray cars, that you get in the spray cans from local garage), and just apply thinish coats (i.e. just enough to cover it), then it won't affect the performance of dish... However, I'm not sure about if the colour you use affects it at all?!

Keep it matt don't use a gloss, use a scotch pad to get a key and rub down again between coats. Spraypaint from a DIY shop is fine as it's harder to find matt black in a car paint :D And do the dish before assembly it's just easier if you need to do the arm and rear saves overspray all over the brackets.

personally i dont think it is an issue as long as u follow above as u can now buy the squish dishes which have a vynal overlay on them to match yr wall now thats a reall glossy and thick piece of sticker

as long as you dont change the focus of the dish by having huge blobs of paint running down it, youll be ok m8. the best paint to use is matt finish. the microwave signals will actually pass through the paint anyway, and be reflected by the dish, but, glossy finish paint will also reflect heat, and twice a year, the sun is directly behind each satellite for a few moments, and your dish is then a solar heater with quite a finely tuned focal point

many moons ago i destroyed an LNB by painting a dish with a reflective silver paint, which back then i thought would improve the signal, then one day, everything just stopped working. the sun had cut the lnb cap in half and completley destroyed the LNB

its march/april and october that this happens for astra2 @ 28.2E, but, EVERY geostationary satellite suffers from this twice a year, gradually getting worse over 2-3 days to a peak, then dying off, it only lasts for a few minutes at a time while the sun travels directly behind the satellites

Heres the dates / times for 28.2E this october when viewed from south wales / bristol area

The above is with a ~75cm dish, the following is for the same satellite(s) in the same location, but with a ~1.1M dish (just in case anyone is interested in this type of thing)

:)

SkyUK suffers twice on different channels on different dates, as it actually comes from 2 orbital positions, 28.2E (astra) and 28.5E (eurobird), but the smaller dish is unable to distinguish between the 2 positions, so picks them up together, this is also why the bigger the dish, the shorter the time its affected by such things, as they have a 'tighter' beam that they can focus towards, without picking up noise from around the edges

Just keep the coats light better to do 2 or 3 than do a messy single coat, also keep the can moving don't pause or try and focus on one spot just start at the top and move the can back and forth working your way down. I also find it easier with the dish layed flat rather than standing up.
