Formatting hdd on vu duo

hi guys im thinking of getting new 1000gb hdd for vu duo , when i get it am i to format it on pc first or can i just put it straight in the vu duo and format it from there

What i did was format my hd to fat32 via my pc then initalize/format it in the vu+duo

I did it in the duo and it worked fine but you can do it on pc too
