Team ViX Enchancements

ViX Bootlogos, Radio Logo and Shut Down Logos.
ViX Team Spinner.
ViX Team Vu_HD Skin.
ViX Team softcam manager (softcams will need to be installed manually).
ViX Team Cron Manager - Allows you to create cron jobs from scrips in /usr/script/ and set them to run at pre-defined times by you. For more info, look at the screen shots below.
ViX Team Power Manager - This allows you to enable standby at a specific time, enable deep standby at specific times, do a GUI restart at specific times, or do a full reboot at specific times. If standby is set after deep standby, then it will wake the box up and return the box to the state it was before deepsleep was initiated... For more info, look at the screenshots below.
ViX Team Device Manager - This enables you to choose where you want to mount USB Sticks, USB HDDs, etc. This can be found in Menu -> Setup -> VIX -> Device Manager. Please also note that USB / ESATA devices NEED there mount points setup in Device Manager (green button whilst in Device Manager) in order for them to work correctly.
ViX Team Image Manager - This enables you to backup and restore your image (nb, we are talking the whole image, not just settings). This can be found in Menu -> Setup -> ViX -> Image Manager. You can choose where to store your backups to, either HDD or USB. /media/hdd/imagebackups or /media/usb/imagebackups folder (setup by pressing menu, whilst your in Image Manager).
ViX Team Overscan fix - This is the fix to remedy any overscan people had in the previous release. To use this, go to Menu -> Setup -> VIX -> Skin Settings and alter the "Menu Overscan amount" to suit your display.
ViX Team Swap Manager - Allows you to create/use swap files on usb/hdd, and also allows you to use swap partitions.
ViX-EPG - This is a simpler, faster version of CoolTVGuide, modified for the image.
ViX QuickEPG - This is VIXs' version of QuickZap. You can see the full epg data for the channel, not just now and next. Picons work within QuickEPG. Also includes channel preview.
ViX Quick Event Info - This is the new way to receive the event info on the ViX image. Press OK button once to get the info bar up, press it once more (i.e. a second time) to receive the information about what is currently showing...
ViX Single EPG (with channel preview) - The is new and unique to vix, after you open the ViX single EPG (short RED) you can view the 7 day epg for that channel, now to see another channels epg, either use the Channel up/down buttons on your remote or just key in the channel number. if you want to preview the channel your currently viewing the EPG for (ie you want to see what the current program is like) just press 'OK' on your remote, this will change to that channel showing you the program in the small video window. if you don't like it, go find another channel to preview by keying in new channel number (or up/down buttons). or if you do like it and want to go fullscreen on it, just press 'OK' again. but if you feel you want to return to the original channel you where watching (whilst still in ViX Single EPG) just press 'EXIT" button, this will return to where you where before you entered ViX Single EPG)
ViX Network Manager added to VIX Menu - This allows you to stop and start certain network features. The features you can stop/start are: FTP, NFS, VPN, Samba and Telnet.
USB DTT - To install dvb-t, you just need to go to the plugins downloads, and select the stick you have. This will then install the drivers for your stick. You will then need to restart your receiver. Once restarted, go to Menu -> Setup -> Service Starting -> Tuner Config, and you should notice Tuner C as your USB DTT...
IPK Installer - Just copy your .ipk fle into '/tmp' and go to the menu option.
AutoTimer plugin integrated into image - Create an AutoTimer (Series Link), using Blue button in Current Channel EPG info.
XMLTV EPG Importer - Thanks to Rytec for his support on this Importer. This has been updated so that the Import automatically updates itself from the servers, so there is no need to download and install new source files. Thanks to Rytec for the idea and andyblac for coding it.
CrossEPG included in image as default - Settings for this can be found in Menu -> Setup -> VIX -> CrossEPG.
EPG Download from transponders - This incorporates the EIT, MHW, FREESAT, NetMed & VIASAT downloads. To enable/disable, change your settings in the Menu -> Setup -> System -> Customise.
EPG load patch - Image patched to allow EPG data to be loaded without the need for a restart.
WebInterface and Help Screens - The Web Interface Remote Control correctly shows the Vu+ remote control, with all buttons mapped correctly. As well as this, in all Help screens, the remote control has been updated to the Vu+, and all references of Dreambox removed.
Added option to disable the spinner (egg timer) - Change the setting of "Show Animation while busy" in Menu -> Setup -> System -> Customise.
Added option to disable the channel numbers in Channel List - BMCC bouquet's have Channel Numbers in their channel name, so you get them twice in channel list.
Panic Button - Added option to enable/disable panic button (goes direct to channel 1).
Subserivice Option - This option allows you to assign the Subservice shortcut to a long green press. To change this option, go to VIX Menu -> VIX Setup.
Option to disable ViX coloured buttons - This should ensure that if users want to use MultiQuick button plugin, it should work without issue
Added Wireless Lan Support - This is automatically enabled in the image. To set up, use the Network manager on first boot, or from the Menu -> Setup -> System -> Network.
NFS Server added to image and set to run automatically - To edit the folders you wish to share, you will need to edit file /etc/exports.
Network Browser - Added Network Browser to help you setup share mounts.
OpenVPN Support - This will need to be configured to your need first then use the manager to setup to autostart.
Added Smargo Support - This is automatically enabled in image.
Recorded Items - Recorded Items list modified to move item, browse directories, etc. Works similarly to suomipoeka plugin. Can be selected to load via the recorded items button, or from the tv button.
Permanent Timeshift Plugin integrated (Disabled by default, turn on via Timeshift settings).
Integrated AutoTimer
Integrated EPG Search
Integrated IMDb Search

ahh no problem :) ill probably leave updating untill around the release of vix 4.8 then lol, as it is at the moment, it works for me, so if it aint broke, and all that ;)

even though i like to always have the latest hardware, once i have software on it that works, it then hardly gets touched :)

Can anyone confirm if there is any new DTT drivers for the likes of this WinTV

http://www.ielektroniks.com/tv-digital/receptores-tdt/wintv-ministick-hd-hauppauge.html

I think it needs a smsusb. driver not the other one that is already in the DVB download section of vix 2.0 for the nova t.

Back on VIX 2.1, thanks guys.
Is there a list of changes/updates anywhere I can read?
Support for AVI's seems much better, no jerking on the movie I'm watching now. Presume that's down to new VU drivers?

Since VIX 2.0 I've been having problem when connected using the component connections. When the VuPlus is booting everything is fine, then suddenly right before it finishes booting, the screen turns pink / purple.

This doesn't happen on VIX version before 2.0, and the problem still exists in VIX 2.1

Please fix.

Please remember we do this as a hobby, we dont get paid to give VU+ users images. We know there is this bug with component and we don't know the cause, that's why there's no answers posted regards this issue. However I will hook mine up to component over the weekend and try figure out what's going on.

What you can do is, if you want to try and help us is flash the latest build of openpli and tell us if the problem exists there too.

Looks like you've told it to use port 8001, and it thinks it's already running on that port:

File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/WebInterface/plugin.py", line 390, in sessionstart
File "/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/WebInterface/plugin.py", line 448, in networkstart

CannotListenError: Couldn't listen on 0.0.0.0:8001: [Errno 125] Address already in use.

Try telnetting in to the box and doing a reboot command (or shutdown -r now), and wait for it to boot up. That might kick it in to action... If not, ftp in, and edit the file /etc/settings, and see if there's anything in there about WebInterface port...

I hope you are all aware of the fact that using "Autobackup" (with "Autoinstall" set to enabled) will give you back all the settings and presently installed plugins after a flash? So you are back in business in no-time!

Did you also set "Scart" to "Component" (needed, because the wiring is interconnected)?

thanks guys for another great image, the autotimer on current epg thing is great!

I see you have an Avermedia Volar Black HD plugin available for the A850 stick - I've tried but cannot get it to work, it briefly appeared as Tuner c but after a reboot it disappeared.

these are the steps I took:
Flash new image
Software update
*reboot*
ccam.cfg transferred
bouquets transferred
*reboot*
setup ccam
*reboot*
download correct dvb plugin
*reboot*
plugin actual dtt usb stick
*reboot*
look for it in service settings
No recognition of stick

I also tried as above without transferring ccam etc and tried with stick plugged in before downloading driver.

Thanks.

now i don't want to sound like a whinge but i always loved pressing the +/- channel button on the remote control and getting the current bouquet presented. IrishChris pointed out the solution many eons ago but it took a bit of reading to figure. Now its my personal viewpoint that the longepg setting that irishchis suggested is by far the best solution to how the remote should work. so once again i request that if it were possible it would be darn great if it were set as default. what i loved about the new image is that when i plugged back in my usb ( system will not reload with two different usb sticks installed) my silverfox picons were still intact. Would miss them big time as they look fantastic. and rihanna don't look half bad as a boot logo.

OK, thanx! I'm afraid that we might be talking about different issues here. This is the thing; when I go to another channel, an info bar is popping up. This infobar is showing lot's of info, such as ecm time and cccam info, and it does cover a to big part of the screen, after my opinion at least. Isn't it any possibility to choose a simpler info bar as default..? Some time ago, in another image (Black Hole), I had a skin installed, which i think is the same as the one in Vix 2.1, but in that version I could choose between two different styles on the info bar. This setting is impossible (at least to me...) to find. Is it removed maybe..?

I also like the Conncinnity (or something like that) skin very much, as it is not to flashy, much of the same as the default actually, but maybe more black than silver/grey. The only problem is that I can't find it for this image. It was available in the 1.3 version.

Anyhow, the Vix images are simply the best. ;)

This is a great image, but the subtitles are totally out of control. No matter if I choose none, swedish, norwegian or danish subs, it is just pure luck if I get the wanted subs. I'm norwegian, and I want norwegian subs, but if I set the autosubs to norwegian, it might just as well be danish or swedish subs appearing on the screen. Even if I choose noe subs, I get subs (swedish or danish, mostly..). In Vix 2.0 this was workin just fine.

Any advice..?

Hello all,

I have read through this thread but cannot see anyone with the same problem as me, so hopefully someone can help. Since changing from 2.0 to 2.1 my EPG only shows info for FTA channels, I have tried going in and downloading in cross epg but it remains the same. I fitted an internal HDD at the same time as I switched to 2.1, probably not the best idea but wondering if it might be related? Anyway I tried flashing again with the new HDD initialised and I got the same problem with the EPG.

Can anyone help please?

Folks, After some clarification from PLI regarding their stance on the VIX image and its use of their code.
I decided to to jump back in with VIX( which is all good ;) ),but having a few strange issues.
On 2.0.3 everything runs sweet as a nut(Not using DVB-T currently) no issues at all all menu's and channel changes near instantaneous.
However when I update to VIX 2.1 My box becomes very, very laggy!!!
Spinning VIX icons on the menu's, EPG very slow, Remote control response terrible just a generally for slow interface.
I'm happy enough to stick with 2.0.3 but am just wondering is anyone encountering similar problems?

P.S Only real difference to stock install is that I'm running IrishChris's retro skin rather than default, but again flawless on 2.0.3 and slow as molasses on 2.1!!!

In my case at least my picons, epg and swapfile are all on a Sandisk Cruzer Blade USB,
And this setup runs flawlessly on other images (VIX and PLI) but is painfully laggy on 2.1 constant hanging often gets to the stage where I would hard reset, but alas no crash logs.

In spite of having asked that a couple of times already, I never got an answer to my question "why on earth would you want to use a SWAP-file?" There is plenty of memory available, so chances are great that a SWAP-file will only slow your system down.

punisher
29-03-11, 19:04
how would it slow your system if its purpose is to give you extra memory?

Rob van der Does
29-03-11, 19:17
Because Linux has a very good memory management, always uses as much memory as possible, does not need more memory then it needs, and USB is much slower then RAM. You really have to install an enormous amount of picons and other plugins in order to get into trouble (if you even succeed in getting problems, which is unlikely)

The idea to use a SWAP-file is a typical Windows-philosophy (if Windows used all memory you indeed are in trouble). There is absolutely no advantage in making available more memory then is needed (especially not if that memory is slow).

There can be a limited number of exceptions to this rule, e.g during a filecheck on a very large drive.

Hi,

I noticed that 2.1 has a "Script Runner" option in the VIX menu. Where should the script be placed to be seen ? I tried /usr/scripts but it doesn't appear. And, is a script that stops and restart the GUI allowed (as it is run by the GUI) ?

Another small thing. In the info bar (default skin) there is a strange icon between the Sat position and the "HD", sort of a black dot with arrows around it, most of the time is greyed out but I think I have seen it black (don't remember when and in what circumstances). What does it mean? It's not in the images at the start of the thread.

I updated recently from Vix 1.3 to the latest version. Until today no probs and everything running smoothly. A big thanks to all involved in making ViX 2.X.

For some reason I seem to be unable to install skins from the update server. I can select, preview and mark for installation and install. The installation looks to be running fine but nothing is downloaded and the end a message shows that 0 packages were installed or updated.

I didn't try all skins available, but tried about 10, no change after a reboot.

Folks, I'm still unlucky enough to be having major slowdowns, Hanging and spinning VIX on my 2.1.4 image after a fresh install(again)
It seems to me like a memory leak issue, but as its easier to swap the image to one of my backups rather than rootcause via debug and telnet i just drop back to VIX 2.0 or OPENPLI(Time Issues on my part really)
Before its suggested I tried 2.1+ with a clean install, no imported settings whatsoever with EPG, Picon and Swap on USB as per usual(tried various types to see if it was a read/write speed issue)
No added plugins whatsoever.
And after suggestion from VuPlus NL that swap wasn't needed tried with swap on and off all with no difference.
That said there seems to be an issue with swap manager autostart(For me at least :( ) as often when I go into swap manager it will show as inactive for a period of upto a few a minutes before starting again(this is whilst set to autostart)
Now when I start with a clean install and run online updates the image runs smoothly for @ an hour and then becomes unresponsive and very laggy leading me to think it could be a memoryleak as the problem seems to develop over time, but as i said I've not had time to rootcause that yet.

What I'd like to do is reinstall a 2.1.4 image and then disable remove unneccesary plugins to see if that makes any difference?
To prevent me removing something required by VIX though I thought I'd ask is there a list of plugins that cannot be removed without causing issues?
As I want to see if a stripped down version will overcome the issues i'm having?

My current issues with the new image aside the convenience of VIX with its out of the box EPG/Quickzap/and autotimer integration and intuitive setup is a lot handier for quick setup(esp for noobs)than going the PLI/BH/VTI route, downloading plugins, sorting multiquick button mappings and virtual zap route ;) And for that a big thank you to VIX team.

Might have tried this already but what happens if you disable picons, don't use a swap file and put the EPG on the hard disk? This will eliminate the use of the usb drive completely. Also, have you tried the usb in different ports? Also again, if you go back to an old image do you have these problems?

No idea why this is happening to you but this kind of troubleshooting will eliminate hardware issues to a certain extent.

Hi Rob,
I should've said in my previous post that I've done that already.
Without usb and files on hd andwith files disabled its the same story approximately an hour running smoothly then bang slow as molasses.
Older images run fine as do openpli and BH, its solely an issue with latest VIX for me.

PS; I agree with you on eliminating the hardware issues 1st, But given that the box runs fine on other images and older VIX I think its more likely an Image/Config issue at this stage(But could easily be wrong)

Well after paring VIX 2.1 to the minimum amount of running Plug ins with nothing at all added the latest VIX is still very buggy for me
And with no further ideas as to what to try myself and nothing further suggested I'm giving up on VIX for the time being as its just to buggy for me.
Which is a shame considering the ease of use it brings to EPG and Autotimer.

I'm currently on VTI's latest and while I miss a few of the bells and whistles that VIX has like PIG in the Cool TV and one touch autotimer
I can hand on heart say it runs flawlessly!(For me at least! I know many many people say the same about VIX 2.1.+)
No spinning timers, no system hangs! Only thing I really miss from VIX/PLI is IrishChris's retro skin (Altho the Black/Red Alu I'm using now is sweet too)
Granted it does take a bit longer to get set up esp with regards to MultiquickButton and quickzap and autotimer isn't nearly as polished as VIX but the rock solid stability is worth more to my sanity!!!

Thanks for the help folks and hopefully with the next VIX release I'll be back in the camp

Glad to know its not just me ;)
From reading a few other fora there does seem to be a consensus that the latest VIX has some issues.
I'm not great with Linux myself but to me it smacks of memory management issue or a leak(But again my programming/Troubleshooting skills are in C++ and a little Java so not claiming it as definite)
Strange thing is that its not affecting everyone! Perhaps it could be a glitch that only shows in certain Mobo revisions? Or hardware configs?
Whatever it is hopefully it will be rootcaused and eliminated soon, because usability wise the VIX image hands down beats anything else out there.

completely useless answer ?

please enlighten me as to why it was completely useless.

every time a new driver pack is released a readme file is also released which is then posted in the initial post telling you has been changed. if you cant get your head round that part you are on the wrong forum.

so for example
=============================

http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?8052-New-Drivers-for-Vu-Duo-amp-Solo-(29-04-2011)&highlight=drivers

20110429
- Fix timeshift problem(2)

to use these drivers open the relevant archive using winrar

vuplus-dvb-modules-bm750-2.6.18-7.3-4.4.3-20110429.tar for the DUO
vuplus-dvb-modules-vusolo-2.6.18-7.3-4.4.3-20110429.tar for the SOLO

now navigate to

lib/modules/2.6.18-**/extra
on your box
backup the files in this folder first then overwrite them with the ones that you download, there should be four files in total.

or just wait for these to be incorporated into the VIX image.

Useless to me, as it didn't answer my question, as simple as that. If 20110429 - Fix timeshift problem(2) is the read me you're refering to, It did answer my question. Thank you very much. :) Strange enough, I've not experienced any timeshift problems. The only "bug" I know of, is the fact that softcams don't autostart.

About medio April OpenPLi implemented the function to slowly delete large files. By slowly cutting them back, the erase function should be able to run in background without blocking out other stuff when deleting. Do somebody know if this has been a part of the latest update of Wix 2.1?

How do I change password on Vu+ Duo..? Lately I've been having a growing suspiction that there's some of my friends that might not be totally honest with me. We're sharing our boxes as an FTP-network, but this is only ment to be used by appointment. This way I can place a file on my harddisk, and the other guys can fetch it. The last few weeks my STB has been turned on when I wake up in the morning, and sometimes the TV (when it's turned on) is showing another channel than the display of the STB. This makes me believe that someone is logging on to my box, and watching TV using the webinterface, or something like that.

How can I find out who this is, and/or change the password for loggin on the box..?

Alanp
14-05-11, 11:02
Telnet to the box type passwd hit enter (not password) type your new password hit enter type it again hit enter all done please note while typing new password it lokks like its not being entered as no characters appear on screen this is normal it will still work

If you do a search on this forum for vix cams there a post with a link in it to all the cams. Download the cccam 2.2.1 ipk file. Ftp into ur box and transfer the .ipk file into the /tmp folder. Then on the box press menu/system/vix/ipk installer to install the cam. Once its installed and restarted. Press blue button/softcam manager/softcams and then start cccam 2.2.1 an then srt it to autostart and thats it. Oh and make sure ur CCcam.cfg file is in the /etc/ folder via ftp

Where's newcamd located in this image (box), and how do I change to another version?

Hmm... just realised that newcamd probably won't work at all in Vu+. Now I've got anoter challenge. How do I set up a smargo-reader on this box? The only place the reader will fit with a card inside, is in the lower slot on the backside. What is this slot called (USB0?), and how can I find out if it is reckognised by the box? I'm planning on using oscam, so any advice regarding the combo of smargo and oscam is even more welcome.

After the latest updates (few weeks ago...) I've had an irritating timeshift problem. When I pause a program, and start it up again a few min utes later, it goes straight to the present time in the show. I then have to rewind to get back to where I was at. Any solution..?

Hamram

Am I the only one with this problem..? Timeshifting a movie using the "pause" button is useless, as it jumps to the end/present time when I press pause or play to continue the movie. I then have to rewind to get back to where I was at in the movie.

Any clue..? Please...

I have this problem as well - it doesn't happen all the time but quite often. Also sometimes fast forwarding greater than 16x doesn't work - again, this is intermittent. Often I also get a system hang (constant spinner and no response to RC) when changing channel from sat channel to DTT - requires a shutdown/restart.

My impression is that VIX is less stable than it used to be, but I can't put my finger on exactly what version this started with...

I'm anxiously awaiting the new version so I can completely wipe my current system and start afresh without restoring settings - I don't want to do this with VIX 2.1 only to have 2.2 come out the next day...

Is it possible to browse the web, using the Vu+ Duo..? I have a browser for Youtube installed, and it works just fine, but is there any browser available for regular browsing..? I would like to stream movies from the internet, if possible. Now I have to connect a PC to the TV in order to watch these movies, so it sure would be nice if I could do this with my Vu+ instead. ;)
