If you still cannot see the hard drive try rebooting, you should be able to see the drive, if not what is the make and model of hard drive are you using.

Strange, which version on the newbie pli image? Try changing the skin. If that dont i'd re-flash with the latest http://www.vuplus-support.co.uk/showthread.php?654-VuPlus-Support.co.uk-Fully-Loaded-OpenPLi-powered-image-24-05-10-Great-for-newbies

ive just tried 4skins ( had to say it :) )and its still not there .i used this img "vuplus-support.co.uk_backup_image_12-05-10" .i didnt want to reflash as it took a while to search for sats as ive always had probs with the motor and USALS.

just a question , is the "HARDDRIVE" tab always there or only when there's been a HD installed ?.might sound stupid but just checking.

It could be the drive that is the problem, as you know the raptor is 10,000rpm, so the burst read - wright rate could be to much for the box to see the drive, if you can try anouther drive, one with 5400 or 7000rpm speeds, you should not have to Initialize to see the drive this will only format it ready for use.

As sacha35 stated, it could be the drive thats the issue, being a 10,000 rpm raptor. In all honesty I cant really say if the HardDisk setting is there without a hard drive installed, never really noticed. I would seriously re-flash the image though as you wont be able to software update that image through the PLi software management > software update, under blue button as there have been some major changes to the kernal. Use the latest one in the downloads http://www.vuplus-support.co.uk/showthread.php?654-VuPlus-Support.co.uk-Fully-Loaded-OpenPLi-powered-image-24-05-10-Great-for-newbies
