WD20EARS working perfectly you need to use 2 jumpers to get it to work (5-6 + 7-8)
http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/search/1/a_id/1679#jumper

Runs cool & very quiet on an external esata docking station

Anyone know if higher capacity drives could be partioned in future eg 3TB single to 2 x 1.5TB partitions?

Have you tried adding jumpers?

No m8,
Just unwrappedd new drive and installed as I got it.
Had it all connected up and fitted back in my cabinet before I tried it.
Was too lazy take it back out, so tried "control centre" and that formatted fine and works fine, so that will do me. :D

Ah right :D you do need to put the jumpers on the drive, if the future you wanted to format in the ET9000 ... see my earlier post

Has anyone actually written more than 1 TB to 1.5 TB or 2 TB drives?
I remember that people had problems with Vu+ Duo with larger than 1 TB drives: everything is working fine until you write more than 1 TB, then the trouble begins.
So I put 1 TB drive in my Duo to avoid such problems.
Now I am thinking about putting 1.5 or 2 TB into ET-9000.

i know one or two people with a 2tb drive in the box but partitioned in to two 1tb sections.

I just put Samsung F2 154UI 1.5 TB 5400 rpm into my new ET9000. Fine so far. Interesting what will happen when over 1 TB.
It successfully records channels that are no longer recorded for some reason by Vu+ Duo with 1 TB Samsung (for example, FoxNews). Most of the channels are still recorded by Duo, but for some reason now zero-length or very small size .ts files are consistently created for some channels.
I will try Eurosport 2 North East HD next - it has so many sound tracks and perhaps that's why it is not recorded by Duo (with a pretty old Open PLi image).
Foxnews was previously recorded without problems, but no longer - perhaps something changed in the broadcast and it can be handled by a newer VIX image.

Just installed a Seagate Desktop external drive 500gb ( model no. ST305004EXD101-RX ) in my new ET9000.

Formatted it on my pc but it would not work with the VIX_hd skin my et9000 kept hanging and wouldn,t boot up for some reason so i changed the skin to vali.hd.flex and it worked.

Anyway first impressions of the et9000 are very impressive. Much better than my DM800.

Just an update on this...

I had no end of problems with this hard drive using the VIX image.

So i changed to the Clarke-Tech support V2 image and after lots of testing this hard drive works great on the CT image.

Well if its initialized on the CT image it should work fine in the ViX image. Did you check mount manager in the the ViX image? Blue button > ViX > Mount manager.

Galaxien

Yes it mounted but whenever i recorded anything it would crash all the time.

Flashed the CT image and it hasn,t crashed once.

Its not solved though is it, all you did was switch image. Chances are it wasn't mounted/initilized correctly, but never mind. If you use ViX again be sure to post the logs if it crashes again.

chillax ? i assure you i am very chilled. all i am saying is why make a post saying you have a problem with the vix image but not give us the logs so that we can investigate or potentially fix the problem ?. if people dont bother submitting crash logs there is nothing we can do to help.

I can see, many friends have written problems, and would like to write and own the most mou.echo less disk seagate barracuda 3500413as who works regularly with all the image with kernel 2.6.x! unfortunately not even recognized by the system to make him mount ( or to be done automatically) in new 3.x.x kernel (new vix image too)! if I find time i will make an effort through the weekend and would like to be as much as possible prepared with ideas that maybe you could help solve the problem.
thanks for any help.
