Is any one else having a problem with a noisy box as mine is very audible i assume its the heat sink fan?
Does any one know the fan size so i could change it for a quiet one?
Had the box for a week so it cant full of dust yet!
well, make sure it is the fan first as it might be a capacitor or so.
how is the sound, whistling, buzzing....etc.
as for the size, it is 50x50x10
I can hear my fan first thing in the morning when everything of off, cant hear it when watching TV. I've read reports of peeps disconnecting them from new and not having any issues, although i wouldn't recommend this though for warranty purposes.
My fan is quiet but the hdd is really annoying, not a fault of the duo but the shelf its on ,everything i have had with a 7200 drive in has done the same, i have a new 5400 drive coming this week.
bob, there is these silencing pads u can buy and stick at the bottom of any device. it is pretty cheap over here from radio shack (around 1$ for the 8), guess it will be like the same or cheaper your place.
Thanks for the info ,i have tried it all in the past ,the unit i have loves 7200 drives ,it really makes it sing ,i know the 5400 will solve it.
I was a noisy fan victim on my old box which also had another issue.
There was no fan noise for almost 2 weeks when the box was new, so when it started, it was very noticeable.
The noise I had was not what I would describe as usual fan noise, it was more of a gentle ticking sound, but it could be heard above normal TV volume level.
My new box is silent, and if the fan becomes noisy, I will replace it myself.

Found the source of the noise its not the case fan its the way the case fan is secured to the the rear casing some anti-vibrating grommets should do the trick!
Thanks for all the inputs
thanks for letting us know
